Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has the record gross for a Tuesday at $15+ million. I think Transormers will easily top that. But by how much? Can it earn $30 million today?

It may beat the record but I doubt it will gross $30MM. Rat's $7.5MM is pretty good. Last July 3rd Superman Returns bagged about $12MM and this was after the weekend debut. I'd say interest in Transformers is probably about even.

This article states that the movie earned between $28 million and $31 million on Tuesday. Wow!

Evening got laughable results at the box office.

Transformers will hit the $100 million mark, no doubt about it. Are the numbers for Sicko good? I know it's a doc. so did it bomb or is it doing good considering it's a doc.?

Nice to see great numbers for Ratatoutille. I think it will also hit the $100 million mark, but not much higher.

Damn, it looks like Transformers is going to make its budget back by Sunday. 27 mil is very impressive for a weekday anyway you look at it.

Sicko is in a tough area, F9/11 was hyped up in an election year and all the anti-bush/iraq war helped it do unpresidented business. Bowling for Columbine was a steady grower due to good buzz and alot of people being re-introduced to Michael Moore (Stupid White Men was a big seller that year). Sicko will do another $8-10 million in theaters, but on home video it will do great. It's not a bomb, it just can't live up to his previous films box office ($125 million)

to all those who thought Transformers would bomb. Today is going to be even bigger.

When I saw Live Free or Die Hard last night at 7:30, all the showings for Transformers were sold out for the rest of the night, where the film was playing on three screens that hold 500 people each.

Before F9/11 the highest grossing doc was $20 million. That skews the numbers a lot.

You can't compare it to Farenheit 9/11, so I wouldn't bother. Sicko cost very little to make, and is still only 441 screens. That's nothing. Considering the money is made already, its a success right now and one of the more successful documentaries ever. I think the goal was to hit something like $20 million domestically, so it should do fine.

Went to see Die Hard today and there were crazy lines to see Transformers. I'll wait a week or so to check it out.

The theatre today couldn't handle the crowds for Transformers when we got out of the show... In fact something happened today that I have never had happen to me at a movie theatre. During the previews, they stopped everything turned the lights on, and checked everyone's tickets to make sure they were in the right movie and time. The movie started about 20 mins. late due to this.

Hmm... Today, I went and saw Evening, after which I attended a 3:50 showing of Transformers.

Doing a quick head count, it appeared as though the theater was (roughly) one-third to one-half full, with the range in error skewing the results more towards the one-half end of the spectrum.

I suppose, at times, it does pay to live in a smaller community, regardless of the half hour drive time it takes to get to the nearest theater worth paying money to attend. Unfortunately, these theaters do not, however, manage to get some of the supposed "smaller" releases, forcing me to either drive an hour and a half to see anything of the sort, or, more pointedly, simply waiting until the eventual release on DVD.

(As a brief aside, I would simply like to say that, while impressive, the twenty-eight million earned by Transformers is merely it's opening day, regardless of it being on a Tuesday. I am looking foward to seeing how it fares in the coming weekend/next week...)

Considering it made $28 million on a day where not every had off, it's take today is going to be huge. And this weekend, as well.

A valid point. However, I was merely attempting to juxtapose this Tuesday opening with any opening by a film on a Friday.

Tuesday = Friday (Both are merely days in which people work, and then go out that evening.)
Wednesday = Saturday

This is why I am interested in the Thursday numbers, as well as the numbers for the upcoming Friday/Saturday/Sunday. While I have no doubt that the film will continue it's onslaught, I merely want to see the numbers before using such superlatives as "impressive" or "ridiculous" to describe the take.

It was insanity getting tickets for Transformers today. It was worth it, but I have never seen anything like it. Even though it is going to kill me in my box office poll, I can't wait to see what the total for the fourth is. It's gonna be huge. It's likely well deserved too.
