weirdest movie in your opinion?
It can be any type of movie
for me its the shining. for my mom its reservervoir dogs (still can't get passed the ear scene, even though I have mentioned several times that we don't see the actual event and the movie isn't as terrably violent as some people say.

Since this thread will undoubtedly turn into a David Lynch discussion, let me just get it out of the way: Eraserhead is and always will be the weirdest movie I have ever seen (well, more than likely).

PS. I don't see what's weird about Reservoir Dogs. Quirky and a little against the norm, but by no means "weird".

most recently I'd have to say May. The movie itself was nothing special but the characters are so ****ed up, I had to take note.
Oh.. and Persona.

The weirdest movies? Definately some of the experimental films I've seen. Of course these would never see the light of day in a mainstream cinema just for being too...whatever. I saw one called Wavelength, a 45 minute experimental film. Basically, there is a large apartment. And for 45 minutes, we zoom, across the room. Somewhere in the middle two women come and look at the apartment. I belive a man comes in and dies somewhere during this time. Oh, the colors of the film starts to change til it's flashing at the end. And what is at first quiet turns into a loud buzzing sound. And it's all one continuous shot. Weird? Yes. Obnoxious? Absolutely. Don't EVER let me watch that again.

To avoid the cliche (but true) response of film "x" by David Lynch, I'll take another path.
One of the first that came to mind was Memento the first time or two that I saw it. First time in the theater, I came out with my head wrapped around itself a few times...but since figuring it out, it's less weird, but still enjoyable.
Going along the path of the "one continuous shot" of weirdness, I'd say Richard Linklater's Slacker (1991). The camera just seems to sorta follow people around a bit, going from one to the next as things happen. Initially we get in a cab with Linklater himself, and he discusses alternate realities with the cab driver, and as he gets out of the cab the camera seems to go elsewhere.
I don't recall a lot, since it's been a long time, but for example, Linklater gets out of the cab while a person on the sidewalk strolls by. The camera follows the stroller to a person (s)he meets on the corner. They converse, and as they split up, the camera follows someone else...etc. Very odd in that capacity. Some of the dialogue is outstanding, others makes ya just sorta go "huh?!?". Like the girl who's trying to sell a jar containing a pap smear from Madonna.
I'll post more as I think of 'em.

Anything by Jodorowsky. The Holy Mountain is the most looney film I have ever seen in my life. After it ended I was catatonic for about half an hour.

Other than David Lynch films and Terry Gilliam films...
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover was kind of wierd.
So was Barton Fink.
Punch Drunk Love was also a little wierd.

I wouldn't really consider Slacker a weird movie. Original and quirky, but not weird. Some great exchanges in that movie:
"Sorry I'm late."
"That's alright. Time doesn't exist."
Weird, for me, conveys a special kind of demented rule-breaking cinema. You get the uneasy feeling that anything could happen, and it usually does...

Maybe it's just me, but "Slacker" seemed like a pretty accurate representation of my post-collegiate years and not weird at all...
It seems to me that you have two types of weird movies: weird major releases and weird indie films. Indie films have a whole 'nother level of strangeness and most people haven't seen them so I think it's more interesting to talk about weird major movies.
2001 is a probably the strangest mainstream movie I can think of, it's so different than anything else coming out of a major studio in 1969 that's it's almost hard to believe that it was ever made. It's one of my top five movies, so it definitely works for me.
If you want to talk indie, some of the MST3K dreck really cant be beat. Manos and Pod People are both truly bizarre.
