Re: Total Recall

I think it looks pretty good. I love the original Total Recall but I don't think it's a masterpiece.

If they go with the original premise of an average joe who turns out to be a secret agent that would be cool. Arnold Schwarzenegger looks so juiced and ripped in the original that it's hard to leave mystery as to whether or not he is or isn't a spy.

I hope they go a different route though, instead of just having the same plot.

Re: Total Recall

Come to think of it, this actually looks more like Minority Report part II. Instead he's not chasing Tom Cruise anymore, now he's being chased.

Re: Total Recall

Yeah. Minority Report was pretty awesome. Except for the ending. I don't mind happy endings, but I hate the way it's like, "yup, this is how it ends...WAIT, J/K!! keep watching."

I really hope they follow more closely to the original "we can remember it for you wholesale."

Re: Total Recall

Doesn't look like it'll come anywhere near the greatness of the original, but that shootout scene looks impressive.

I hope they've kept the "two weeks" scene.

Re: Total Recall

I laughed when I first heard about it but that trailer was pretty solid!

Eh, looks like more about special effects stuff than story. Not sold yet.

Re: Total Recall

...like the original film's trailer didn't emphasize that and the action?

Re: Total Recall

I'll see it, but they totally cyberpunked it. What made the first one cool was that normality lived within this futuristic setting. This one doesn't have "normality." The Recall center and the people working there look shady as fuck. Like, you would really walk in there and buy something from them? Pfffffffft.

I'm trying to avoid comparisons to the film with the same name. I'd like to take it on it's own.

Which is why I said that they cyberpunked it up the ass. That's not necessarily a good thing, imo.

I also hope that they go with an R rating otherwise there will be no hot martian chick with 3 tits.

I'm not comparing the films per se...just the trailers and how they showed off each other.

on the topic of the trailer....seems like Sony is really quick about taking them down on Youtube. I don't think I've seen studio act that fast.

Re: Total Recall

You're in the extreme minority. Most people will blindly dismiss the film out of some misplaced loyalty to the original. Some people act like The Godfather is being remade. The original Total Recall is a fun film, but a great film it is not in my opinion. Not even close.

Some films shouldn't be remade. Truth be told this is not a remake of Arnold's film. It's a remake of the source material. They use the Total Recall name for obvious reasons. But I just can't see the righteous indignation over this film getting a remake, or re-imagining. I think Robocop is a better, more memorable film.

Who knows if the film will be good. But I'll give it a fair shake, and not try and judge it against the original.

greatness of the original
I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but how is Total Recall anywhere close to being greatness? Since when did bad dialogue, over the top acting, and corny one-liners become greatness.

I also hope that they go with an R rating otherwise there will be no hot martian chick with 3 tits.
Wiseman said he shot the three-breasted woman, but who knows if it will be in the film. The number of directors who can dictate their own rating you can count on one hand. Wiseman doesn't have that pull. Studios want PG-13 ratings, because they think that will bring more money and help the film reach a wider audience.

I'd also like to apologize for my "stupid" remark earlier. It was unnecessary and uncalled for.

Re: Total Recall

Is the 3 breasted woman in the original story? I was under the belief that it was remaking the film and not the story.

Re: Total Recall

Well, we'll see about remaking the source material, but just from looking at the chair set-up where Farrell gets strapped in for his injection - it looks just like Arnold's chair with that orb thing behind his head.

Re: Total Recall

sooo searched it up a bit. Seems like it's both. Remaking the film...but also adding in stuff from the story. Adding strong political influences...sooo who knows wtf means. Never read the original story.

here's an embeddable trailer:

Totally different "what they were going for", but since you asked..

I think it actually looks interesting aside from Kate Balsawood.

Re: Total Recall

I could see a trailer for a trailer for something like The Hobbit, or a new Star Wars movie, but for a remake of a (relatively) low budget genre film?

Re: Total Recall

Total Recall was a low budget genre film? Arnold Schwarzenegger was the biggest star in the world at the time.

Re: Total Recall

Looks like it was the 2nd highest budget next to Die Hard 2 of 1990.
