G.I. Joe live action movie

Was thininking about this today with Transformers coming out this summer, why isn't there a G.I. Joe live action film yet? I know there have been rumors of one in the works, but when I google, everything that comes up seems to have rumors that are outdated with the most recent stuff being from '05.

Also, I would think this one would be easier to make than transformers, budget/logistics-wise, since all the characters are human and the actions scenes wouldn't have to be as intricate with CG as Transformers is. Is Hasbro waiting to see how well Transformers does at the box office?

I'm sure some studio is working on a script, but just wondered why there isn't more recent rumors on it since it has a large fan base and would do well and you know hollywood wants those dollars. If done right I think it could be a good popcorn flick. Anyway, anybody heard any recent rumors? A good link? A nice theory on why this isn't already here? Casting ideas?

Sorry if this is a re-post, searched and didn't come up with anything.

There's only one cast member that's a must: Jason Lee as Shipwreck.

Sam Jackson as either Stalker or Roadblock. Let him say the line "I hate snakes".

Keep the movie based on the begining of GiJoe so the Joes have real world vehicles but use the Joe names (Dragonfly, Skystriker, etc). Leave the made up vehicles (HISS, FANG, etc) to Cobra.

Have mustache, will travel.

Kurt Russell would make a good Flint. Scarlet Jo as Scarlet. Demi Moore as Lady Jaye. Michael Clarke Duncan as Destro. Colin Farrell as Zartan. Courteny Cox as Baroness. Hulk Hogan as Sgt. Slaughter.

This movie wouldn't even need much dialogue. Anyone remember the excellent Larry Hama-written story that had Snake Eyes infiltrate--by gilder--Cobra Commander's castle HQ and the issue-long battle with Storm Shadow that ensued? Wasn't a line of dialogue in the entire thing. Great story-telling though.

Hell, you could cast almost any skilled martial artist as those two, acting ability be damned. (Ray Park, perhaps? And Jet Li?)

If Transformers is an uber-success, you can bet GI Joe will get the greenlight.

If Angelina Jolie put on her accent from Alexander she could be the best Baroness ever.

I would love to see a G.I. Joe live action movie with realistic military battles. A well-choreographed Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow fight scene would be a must.

My choices:
Brad Pitt - Duke
Willem Dafoe or Gary Oldman - Cobra Commander
Julianne Moore - Scarlett
Famke Janssen or Angelina Jolie - Baroness
Tony Jaa - Quick Kick
Ray Park - Snake Eyes
Jet Li - Storm Shadow

I wouldn't really consider them too relatable. There are a lot of factors other than retro toy roots that would contribute to a big Transformers theatrical run (CGI eyecandy, spectacle of giant robots fighting each other, talent attached, etc.). We haven't had a lot of bot films...we have seen a lot of soldier movies.

Yeah, but how many of those movies show a guy in a parachute being ejected every time a plane gets shot?

Since Transformers is probably costing $200M, what would qualify as an uber-success?

Oh, and Clive Owen as Firefly.

This is somewhat dated, but I found this premise on a yahoo site. Looks fairly credible.

"As a mysterious man who will someday become known as Cobra Commander forms a terrorist group that has the potential of endangering the entire world, an elite military group called G.I. Joe is called into action to stop his evil efforts."

Mentions Paramount will distribute.

Rottentomatoes has a story from 2/05 regarding the writers of Four Brothers have been hired.
