Updated and finished...Not too bad, got to 40, and I will watch the awards so I guess that makes it 41.

Well, I didn't get 100 films, but I did watch 100 hours worth. I thought this was a great challenge since there was no arguing over what qualified as with the Horror Challenge. Plus, when you go through the Oscar winners and nominees, there's a lot of variety that you can so you're not bogged down with a single genre. Though I'm disappointed that there weren't more board members engaging with the challenge.
I did achieve some personal goals: to watch some from my unwatched pile, to pick up some classics I've been meaning to get like Anatomy of a Murder, to go through some commentaries and to make it all the way through all of my Lord of the Rings Extended Editions. It's been fun, but now I need to get back to some TV on DVD that I've been neglecting over the last 30 days.

That's all for me. I got 90 out of 100. I just wish that I had a little more time. Most of the movies that are Oscar nominated, run over 2 hours and it is harder to fit in alot. Oh well, I got to watch some of the best movies ever made and it was really fun! I just hope that "The Departed" cleans house tomorrow night at the Oscars. Congrats to everyone on reaching their goals! Can't wait until next year.

Was gone all day yesterday so I didn't have time to get to my most favorites (Godfather,Pulp,Wizard) but maybe I'll save them for next year. Who knows.
Still had a great time with this marathon though! Some highlights: Number of times I choked up/got teary-eyed: 4 (Yearling,Starman,Schindler,Color Purple) Favorite "Whoa" moment: Final shot of Saving Private Ryan with the American flag immediately followed by the flag burning into an "X" in Malcolm X. Movies I saw for the first time and liked: Pickup on South Street Umberto D. Shane Network The Best Years of Our Lives Disappointments: Twilight Samurai Stalag 17 The Apartment To Catch a Thief Klute Got a better appreciation for: Unforgiven Breakfast at Tiffany's Hero Live and Let Die(!) See youse guys tonight at the Oscars!

The 79th Annual Academy Awards I've been kind of a "silent" participant in some of the other contests, but I figured I would share my list this time. Overall I thought it was a lot of fun. I liked the fact that I could include both Smokey & the Bandit and Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans. Also, the fact that we could count short films was a bonus, as that made up about fifteen of my selections. Good times. Looking forward to the next contest. |

Congrats to those that reached 100! I'm disappointed in myself for only reaching 75. Overall I really enjoyed what I watched and was glad I was able to count all 6 Star Wars movies, which I watched for the first time in chronological order.
Thanks for tabulating the scores, Shack.

I know I had a great deal of fun with this challenge, although my wife hated me for it. I was glad that we included shorts because I definitely would not have hit 100 - plus I was able to see some funny cartoons that I had never seen before.
Some highlights for me were The Polar Express, Munich, Murderball and Master & Commander. I had never seen them before and did not think I would like them. However, I absolutely loved all four of them. If not for this challenge, I probably never would have seen them. March of the Penguins, Half Nelson and Whale Rider were three disappointments for me. I had high hopes for those three from what I had heard of them, but they just did not do anything for me personally. Overall, I had a fantastic time with this challenge and can't wait to do it next year.

This challenge was a tremendous amount of fun! I've always wanted to get through a few Oscar nominees & winners around awards season and this challenge provided the nudge that I needed.
I'm still watching a few from this year's list of winners/nominees to get caught up. It was fun watching and noting the categories in which the films were nominated while it lasted! Looking forward to next year! |

I really enjoyed this challenge; I hope we do it again next year. It gave me a chance to rewatch a lot of great films in my collection that I don't watch very often, and it also gave me a chance to watch 10 new films that I hadn't gotten around to yet, a couple of which I really enjoyed (Little Miss Sunshine and Fried Green Tomatoes) and a couple I didn't (The Battle Over Citizen Kane documentary and the 2004 remake of Phantom of the Opera).
All in all though, I really enjoyed the challenge, although next year, I probably won't bother to watch them chronologically, like I did this year. Rob |
