Re: Spider-man 4 (2011) - News, Rumors, Cast, Etc

Now the word on the streets is that Spidey 4 is getting delayed because Sony assholes can't agree with Raimi's villain choice. They say that Raimi wants The Vulture, but Sony doesn't want The Vulture. Can't they just let him make his movie?

In the comic books, I always prefered The Vulture more than the Lizard, but for adapting into a movie, I think The Lizard would be a better choice than the Vulture. Same goes for Kraven - while he's great in the comic, I don't think he's going to work in a movie. Kraven is too 1980s/1990s cheesy villain. Just look at this photo to get a sense:

If Tim Burton was directing Spiderman, he would be happy to use Kraven...he'd probably make an army of zoo animals attack Spiderman (remember the penguin army in Batman 2? )

I'd rather Raimi get his way, but then again it wasn't entirely the studio's fault that parts of Spidey 3 were terrible and the whole female Vulture thing sounds stupid.

I can't believe that Raimi would want the Vultress...It sounds more like some compromise that Sony wants "If you want the Vulture, then you have to make the Vulturess"

Who's idea was it to have the Goblin glider boy costume? That was a horrible descision as well...

If he wants the Vulture so bad, let it be an opening villain/action scene. Spidey takes him out (like TDK & Scarecrow) Get it out of the way, then move onto the lead.

The only thing I've heard in regards to actual studio interference for #3 was the inclusion of Venom. Given how stupid the Green Goblin's mask looked in the first movie, I don't think it's far fetched that Raimi was responsible for other screw ups or weird design choices.

Of course, I don't care about the Kraven love as a villain either.

Re: Spider-man 4 (2011) - News, Rumors, Cast, Etc

Spider-Man villains are generally REALLY lame. That said, I have no problems with The Vulture (and the "Vultress" is, from what I understand, just a really huge rumor anyhow, probably made up by the douchebag liar fanboys at IESB). I say include Vulture and Rhino and just BAMMO you got a good ground villain and air villain. Give them just enough plot to explain why they're important and move on. Or just shelve the entire facacta franchise and work on bringing me a GOOD Iron Fist movie.

Kirsten Dunst's 'Spider-Man' character to be killed?
Los Angeles News.Net
Wednesday 23rd December, 2009 (IANS)

Hollywood actress Kirsten Dunst's red-headed character Mary Jane from the 'Spider-Man' franchise is reportedly going to be written off after the fourth instalment.

Insiders claim Dunst's character will be written off in the next movie and replaced by Anne Hathaway as Spider-Man's new love interest, reports hollywood.com.

'The plan is for her character to be written out, probably by dying. Anne will take over as Peter Parker's new love interest for this project and for 'Spider-Man 5' and 6 which are being written now,' said a source.

'Anne's in Los Angeles doing a lot of meetings on the movie, because filming is right around the corner,' the source added.

Hathaway could certainly fill out the suit. Why not just let Peter date... Betty Bryant, Felicia Hardy, even Gwen Stacy.

Why not just recast the role? Rachel Miner is a hotter, and edgier version of Kirsten Dunst anyway.

I really wanted to see the little bit of love Brant gave Peter in SM2 evolve more...I always loved how some of the gals really liked dorky Parker. Plus...it's Elizabeth Banks!

Re: Spider-man 4 (2011) - News, Rumors, Cast, Etc

More of the same, but looks like an actual delay now:

So, it turns out the "indefinite hold" rumor IESB ran before the Christmas break was not the work of Mysterio, but an actual production delay. As we reported at CBR yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the holiday break has turned into a big question mark. The reason for the delay? A clash between director Sam Raimi and Sony over the choice of villain. "Raimi wants to have a criminal known as the Vulture act as the primary antagonist in the film while the studio, which dislikes the idea of the winged wrongdoer, is pushing for a romantic sub-plot involving a burglar named the Black Cat in addition to another villain," writes THR. Another screenwriter, Alvin Sargent, has been brought on to draft another version of the script. If all of this sounds familiar, it's because the same thing happened on "Spider-Man 3." Sony and Raimi no longer appear to have a common vision for the series. This whole situation has put some doubt on the release date. Somewhere, Mysterio must be laughing his ... um ... face(?) off.

Makes it sound like the studio is really pushing to get rid of Dunst, doesn't it? Of course that would make it odd that Peter would just forget about MJ so quickly and fall for Felicia Hardy.

which is what i don't get. from all appearances, the inclusion of the crap from SM3 was at the behest of the studio, not Raimi, right? i mean, with the public outcry about emo Peter Parker, they should just let the guy make a good movie like the first two.

Re: Spider-man 4 (2011) - News, Rumors, Cast, Etc

Well.. three things drive the studio to make demands.

1) $$$$$.. they are the ones financing the film.
2) $$$$$.. they retain rights to villains/people introduced into the films (ie. Venom) for possible spin-offs. Venom and Felicia Hardy/Black Cat have more spin off potential than The Vulture or The Lizard.
3) $$$$$.. despite the bitching and moaning, Spider-man 3 still made $890,871,626 WW.
