I actually thought of that too, and YES if you watch the Acamdey Awards on February 25th they will count as a title. But, you must watch all of them (not including the preshow stuff)

Cool, glad that counts. There's also the Barbra Walters special and the Oprah special.

So now we can watch any hitchcock movie, any kurosawa, antonioni, felllini movie, any o'toole, redford, poitier .... on and on and on

i mean, this means i can watch transformers the movie because orson welles won an honorary oscar. surely this is not the intention!

No, you're right. I never thought of that. Okay, NO HONORARY OSCARS because that does let up too much of a possibility.

I agree that every honorary Oscar that's been handed out to various people in the field throughout the years can be a stretch, but I thought it would've been neat to go through most of Morricone's body of work in this challenge and be rewarded with the payoff to him on the upcoming telecast.

Aw well, at least I got a few movies he was nominated for.

I'm looking forward to starting this tomorrow. I've got 90 movies that qualify, and while I may not be able to get to them all, this should be a great way to finally watch some I haven't gotten around to watching yet.

Yes that would count. It makes no difference. But, you can only watch one of them. Meaning you can't watch the theatrical cut then the extended cut of the same movie.

This challange will be much more fun than the horror challenge. For one, we won't have a million different people asking if a horror tv show counts as a movie. Plus, lots of genres to pick from, which is nothing but a plus. The only rule I don't agree with is counting sequels to a Best Picture winner. The rule does say only films that have been nominated/won an Oscar. Rocky V did neither. But in all it's going to be fun. I have a huge stack of nominated films I'm ready to start on.

I completely agree. The rule of watching sequels to Best Picture winners is no more. I was thinking about this today and I have decided that is no longer valid.

Glad you dropped the sequel rule. I understand you initially suggesting that so that people might have more movies to select, but after looking at all of the categories and nominations, there's plenty from which to choose. You don't think of watching something dreadful like Hollow Man and it being an Oscar nominee (2000 - Visual Effects).

Here's a handy link to academy award lists: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0147913.html

I'm not sure why you would want to though. Those 3 and 1/2 hours could be used for two shorter movies.

my personal target is not really to hit a 100 movies but rather to discover stuff in my collection that i have not seen yet or would like to see again

having said that, i was really upset to find that my Godfather Part 2 has died from dvd rot. just found out last night when i unwrapped the box set in preparation for this challenge...

this might have been answered but we count watching a movie (DVD) with the commentary track, right?

Yes, that rules does apply. You can indeed watch a movie once, then again with a commentary track and count that twice.

I will add this to the rules on the first thread.

Oh cool, I didn't know that.

On the off chance I actually get through all 90 of mine before the challenge is over, I can go back and start rewatching some with the commentary on.

So far this has been a much more fun challange than the horror one. I have watched several movies I haven't touched in months. Nice to mix things up.

I'll do this, since I'll end up seeing a lot of the nominated movies I didn't get around to earlier since there now all playing near me.

Me too, I've watched quite a few I haven't touched since I bought them. I've also rewatched several from the horror and holiday challenges. I'm really enjoying this challenge, and watching a lot more than I thought I would.

Me 3!

It's been a wonderful breeze through this challenge (I think I was already feeling the wear-and-tear of the last horror challenge by this point)

I'm actually looking to up my total to (At least) 120 movies.
