Movies you never thought you'd love...

I just saw "The Devil Wears Prada" and enjoyed it so so much. "SGLDWP"!!

It was so smartly crafted, witty dialogue and some really good performances, especially Meryl Steep and the always versatile Stanley Tucci. I mean i rented it simply because i wanted to see what the hype was about.

i thought it might be ok, but that i would skip through parts. But, i didn't. i really enjoyed it all. it WAS highly predictable and it WAS formulaic and some things i wish didn't progress character wise like MS would stay icy throughout, but in her subtlety it really worked and was rightly nominated.

anyway, i really enjoyed it and never thought i would.

Others:
"Love Actually"(really blew me away when i begrudingly saw it with a gf in the theaters, but it actually made me tear and have wound up watching it many times)
"Mean Girls"(this movie just screams not-a-straight-guy movie, but it was so silly and warm all at the same time)

I would have to say The Producers with Matthew Broderick.
I detest musicals, but I caught this on HBO a couple months ago, and I loved it.

The Shawshank Redemption - I was 13 when I first watched it, and figured it would just be a boring prison movie. But I liked it even at that age.

School of Rock - I've never been a big Jack Black fan, so I was apprehensive. But this was the perfect vehicle for him. And the kids and music were great, too.

City Slickers - I hate westerns, mostly because my father loves them and kind of forced them upon me as a kid. And I know this isn't really a western, but to me it's close enough.

Dazed and Confused - No good reason I figured I wouldn't like it. As a kid, the box art didn't really do anything for me. Guess it was a case of "don't judge a book (or movie) by it's cover," even though I love that cover/poster now.

Mean Girls
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
10 Things I Hate About You

Not my favorites by far, but I went in hating to watch them but came out thinking they were more than halfway decent.

Harry Potter & Bridget Jones

Never would have rented or bought these movies. ABC played them and I had nothing else to do or watch. Enjoyed them all!

Most classic movies and foreign films. I could never even stand to watch black and white until I got into DVDs. More recently though...Peter Jackson's King Kong.

Those two stick out in my head, because I outright refused to watch these two, and then finally did, and loved them

Thanks for making me feel old! Seriously though, I also thought the premise sounded boring, but this is one of my top 5 movies.

The Pursuit of Happyness. It was much more well-made and acted than I expected. Will Smith was really great. Probably because he wasn't being Will Smith.

I'm pretty open-minded about movies. So lots of the mentions above don't really apply to me.

HITCH is one that comes to mind. Plays on the Starz stations regularly. I found myself watching it again this evening. This was the second time I sat down and watched it pretty much begining to end.

Not yet certain what it has that bad romance comedies don't.

I find it interesting that so many people are listing Mean Girls. That's the very first movie I thought of when I read this thread topic.

it is funny that so many choices are the same. i guess we are a bunch of males very secure in our masculinity that enjoys a movie that is decidely not testosterony.
