I guess I've just had different experiences.

My wife and I go regularly, and we've never had that problem. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I've personally never experienced it.

Right as my screening for Super 8 was starting up today, we were actually encouraged to tweet about the movie, and given a special hash tag to use!

It's entirely possible I've just been lucky.

I've been to the Drafthouse a few times so the food servers running around dont bother me. It just tempts me to order more food. That said, We have a really nice one here. Huge screens/theater built specifically for the Alamo Drafthouse. Quick staff. Even so I try to not go there until the moves been out for at least a couple of weeks. Less crowding and you dont really have to worry about young children or babies.

Re: Do you HAVE to text during the movie?!?!?!

I just learned that the South Lamar Drafthouse (and Highball) are going to be incorporated into a new apartment/condo development. The rest of the shopping center is going away. So maybe that means a parking garage? Wonder if anything else will change with the theater? Not wild about seeing more condos in the area, more traffic, but whatever. Things change. There are others breaking ground down there now or soon.

If anyone spots any of those call blockers for closer to $20 I am down for one.

Also texter in my Super 8 showing, just once luckily.

I would have given him a piece of his mind if he and his buddy didn't look like they could kick my ass.

Re: Do you HAVE to text during the movie?!?!?!

We all paid extra to see Super 8 on the IMAX screen at AMC last night. It's kind of a ripoff, but we did it just to avoid the rabble. Yes, it worked, great theater experience.

Pretty easy to avoid the rabble at Super 8 screenings. They've all been half-full at best.

Though I agree with you about the waiters, I still wish more theaters would take an active course on texting and talkers.
(I also hate people who put their smelly feet on top of the chair in front of them, even when someone is sitting right next to the seat. Last thing I need is someone's old sneaker right next to my face and having my chair shake. If there's no one near the seat, then fine.)

So, that video from the Drafthouse got cited on Bill Maher this past evening. I nearly died when I saw that "Magnited States of America" bit and Maher teared into it. I think he was wrong to cite her as a teabagger, but it was hilarious to see that anyway.

I have been to the Alamo twice since it hit and they didn't even play it! Got the Peter Bogdanovich one at Tree Of Life - which looked spectacular on the 4K projector. Too bad the queso was inedible and tasted like an armpit. Austin folks need to try out Violet Crown Cinema. Saw Midnight in Paris there yesterday.

Re: Do you HAVE to text during the movie?!?!?!

Found this article regarding the possibility of theaters allowing/encouraging texting.

Re: Do you HAVE to text during the movie?!?!?!

Even when someone checks the time during a movie I'm slightly annoyed. It's like "Really? Do you have someplace else to be during the actual fucking movie?"

Shit. I wish I saw this thread before I made my own.

Any chance a mod can merge my thread into this one?

I do that sometimes but it's not for that reason. If I'm in a 2 hours plus movie and want to know (by looking at the time) how much longer the movie will be.
Hey I'm a girl who does have to go to the little girls room sometimes "during" a movie. If I check the time and it looks like there's only 20 or 30 mins I'll wait rather than crawl over my neighbors. More than an hour.. Sorry.

Re: Do you HAVE to text during the movie?!?!?!

London theater now employs "ninjas" to stop texters.

Not an Onion article. I can actually see this backfiring at some point.

Fail. A real ninja would kill them with a shiruken or some shit.
