"100 Funniest Movies"...Bravo TV's List?
This special debut Friday (5.26) and completed Saturday (5.27). I didn't see it all, but I didn't like the ordering too much. Putting some of the more recent successful comedies like "Meet The Fockers" and "Wedding Crashers" in the top 25. No way MTF's is that highly ranked on any list.
Well, their #1 was "Animal House" which I can get behind, but of all time or whatever year they decided to start at? Anyone have a complete list? I don't think it is published yet, but maybe someone jotted them down. I am particularly interested in where "Young Frankenstein" was ranked as a few critics have said this is the funniest film of all time. AFI disagrees putting it at 13 with "Some Like It Hot" at #1. I don't even think SLIH was on their list or any Marx Brothers movies. Maybe they didn't go back that far. Anyone know if there was a certain year they started from as oldies weren't there at all I don't think. Anyway let me know. TIA.

I just shut the special off when Legally Blonde was listed as number 29.

Meet The Fockers?
Surely that was a type and was supposed to be Meet The Parents. Right?

I watched it but only to get an idea for some films I haven't seen. I guess I'm in the minority in hating Animal House. The only time I laughed was when Bluto is giving his inspirational speech...

Just some of the many crimes on the list:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail lower than Mrs. Doubtfire National Lampoon's Vaction lower than American Pie The Blues Brothers below Kingpin Naked Gun lower than Ace Ventura: Pet Detective This is Spinal Tap lower than What About Bob? Meet the Parents lower than Meet the Fockers Spaceballs, The 'burbs, Men in Black, Ed Wood, Army of Darkness not even on the list, but Eddy Murphy's The Nutty Professor and Sister Act are. Edited to Add: Pixar barely even made the list with only The Incredibles charting at #46, but Shrek is #3.

Unless I'm missing it, there's not much love for John Candy.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles? Uncle Buck? Personally, Robert Zemeckis' Used Cars would be very high on my list. That is one of the funniest films I've ever seen. Also, did not see Stir Crazy - The funniest film Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder made. BTW, has anyone watched Airplane lately. I remember it as so funny back when I first saw it in the theater, but now it really seems dated. (I always wonder too - Are kids watching the film today wondering who the old guy in the taxi is? ) |

The fact that Zoolander is on the list negates its validity, imho.
Also, Spinal Tap at #64? That really should be in the top 20 (at least) |

There's Something About Mary was funny once, the first time. It has no replay value in my opinion.

Dr. Strangelove #53? Do they know comedies existed before the 70s? These people ever heard of Peter Sellers? Charlie Chaplin? All those '30s comedians? No Ladykillers '55?
This really has to be near the top of the worst lists ever made, even other film lists had some sort of semblance among their criticisms, this is just ghastly. |
