Rian Johnson's new film "Brick"

Has anybody else had a chance to see this?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393109/

Focus has picked it up, but I'm not sure when it's coming out. I saw a screening of it in LA a week or so ago and Rian did a very interesting Q&A afterwards.

I hadn't heard anything about this movie before I saw it. For about the initial 15 minutes or so, I absolutely hated this movie, disliking the film noir plot and dialogue superimposed upon a high school setting. At about 20 minutes in, I realized that I was really starting to enjoy it and ended up moving past my initial reservations and really loving it.

After I left the theatre, I was already looking forward to catching it again!

I doubt it will get to my area, but it might be a rental for me on dvd. The trailer looks pretty fucking weird - which is a plus in my book.

Eh, I had a chance to see this back in October at the Austin Film Festival but chose to sit it out. I'm still kicking myself for that, but it showed at Sundance more than a year ago so I anticipated a release sometime before the end of the mankind. Silly assumption I guess.

Since Sundance, Rian said he trimmed about 6 or 7 minutes. I believe what I saw was the final cut. This is his first film. I believe he was one of the co-editors on "May".

I have been dying to see this since the first time I saw the trailer on another Focus film! Any word on when this will finally get out (probably have to wait for the DVD, the ONE theater company we have here is shite)?

Also, any idea why the trailer has been altered? Initial versions have the dialogue describing "Tug" as "a drink, like milk and vodka." The more recent versions that I have seen simply say "milk and something."

The initial trailer was red band. The MPAA has strict rules about "objectionable material" in the green band traulers, and I think two high schoolers talking about alcoholic drinks with familiarity would fall under that category. Perhaps it was altered for a green band?

I was wondering why the trailer was red band. I saw it a few times, but I didn't really notice anything suspect.

I saw it last Fall at Mill Valley and I thought it was tedious and unintentionally silly - didn't see what all the Sundance buzz was all about.

Finally got a chance to see it...unfortunately it was at a local "art house" cinema with a very shitty sound system, so was really straining to hear the dialogue, probably only could catch every other line...the sound system really is THAT bad... but I enjoyed the shit out of it.

Great directing style, some really whip smart dialogue and very noir. I loved The Pin and just about every touch they added to his character (the house, the van etc.) Was surprised to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt turn in a really solid performance and he carried the movie pretty well. I'm definitely getting the DVD (I can finally hear it all!) and would easily recommend it to mystery/noir fans. A nice debut for Johnson.

I'm glad to see that it's getting positive word of mouth. I saw the trailer for this thing last year, and have been wanting to see it ever since. Can't wait for the dvd.

just saw it last night and it had all the pinnings of a noir. characters, mystery, femme fatale. I thought the dialogue was good and interesting but it the actors failed a bit in the delivery. It didn't feel to have a natural flow. I really enjoyed it and will definately buy the dvd. I also agree with the post above regarding the pin. What a character, the van, the house, the boot. great character.

This movie would have been great if not for the twat lead actor. And if it didn't have a guy named "The Pin".

I just watched this last night, and I really liked it. I got it from Netflix based on the review here at DVDTalk, and I wasn't disappointed. It took awhile for me to get into the flow, since the way they were talking wasn't altogether natural. It was like watching Deadwood (without all the swearing), they're all speaking English but you have to really concentrate to figure out what the f+$# they're talking about. Once I was hooked in though, I really enjoyed it.
