Do You Have To Watch Get Shorty First To Understand Be Cool? Need Replies Soon.

I just picked up Be Cool on DVD for pretty cheap. I know it's supposed to be a sequel of sorts to Get Shorty, which I never actually got around to watching, mainly cause up until about a year ago I thought the movie was, just based on the cover, about a bunch of mafia type guys try to catch a midget...that midget possibly being Danny DeVito. I'm sure I was probably way off on that one...but anyway.....

I was just wondering if Be Cool just had some of the same characters or if I would need to be familiar with the previous storylines to understand it or get the most out of it. It seems kind of odd to me that they would try to make a summer hit film with a great cast, with a sequel to a film that's 10 years old that most of the people in the summer theater rush probably weren't even too familiar with. The title wouldn't have been an indication even...it's not Get Shorty 2 or anything.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Personally, I recommend watching Get Shorty and never watching Be Cool. You'll thank me for it.

Same here. Be Cool is the ugly stepsister of Get Shorty.

I haven't seen Get Shorty, but I watched Be Cool and was able to follow it easily. It wasn't very good, though.

Yeah. I had this feeling of "What just happened?" after I watched Be Cool. "What did I just watch?"

Wasn't very good at all. Stick with Get Shorty.

The only reason to watch Be Cool is to appreciate how good Get Shorty is...but then again Get SHorty is such a good movie and Be Cool is soooooo bad, it doesn't take sitting through Be Cool to realize that.

I don't share everyone's opinion of Get Shorty, I didn't care for it...which really doesn't relate to the question now does it.

Anyway, you could watch Be Cool with no knowledge of Get Shorty and still get 99% of the movie, and that 1%, you're not even aware that you're missing.

I found Get Shorty to be overrated. It's was alright, but definitely not great.

However it's a masterpiece compared to the garbage that was Be Cool.

Be Cool had to be my letdown of 2005. Dre and the Rock, the two guys who really are fringe actors, probably had the only quality parts in the film. The rest? Awful. 'Cept maybe Ced. But wow, I can't remember the last film I saw in theaters that *I* wanted to see where I ended up thinking, "When's this going to be over?" so many times. Just agnonizing by the end.

So my advice: go 'Get Shorty.'
