Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

I can feel myself getting tugged into the Hot Toys black hole.

After the first one, it remarkably easy to order a second (ordered Jyn Erso yesterday) and now I'm looking at Han and Chewie. I've seen pics of Chewie that are alternately awesome and...not so much. In some pics he looks like Lumpy from the Holiday special. But I'm guessing the effect in person of both him and Han together is worthwhile.

I got a sent a coupon from SS for $25 off an assortment of stuff, and another one for 5% off on Chewbacca exclusively.
Problem is I can't decide on picking up Han & Chewie, or getting the SS Probe Droid instead. I like that the Probe Droid is more like a abstract sculpture or object d'art rather than a "doll".

Anyone have these and want to make a case for either/or?

I have the Hot Toys Han and Chewie. They're really good figures, not perfect but worth having if you're into 1/6th scale figures and Star Wars. Chewbacca looks a lot better in person once you work with the fur. I don't have the Probe Droid but I hear its one of Sideshow's better figures.

Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

I was initially hesitant about the probe droid because
1) it was said to be as light as a feather (i.e. just hollow plastic). As more of a statue collector (and something I've been phasing out of last couple years), hollow and light isn't that reassuring or compelling.
and
2) It's Star Wars stuff.

Ever since Return Of The Jedi soiled the universe for me, collecting SW stuff has been a push/pull kind of thing. There's a part of me that sees all this cool stuff and would love to have it, appealing to a deep rooted nostalgia. But then everything SW since and including Jedi has been a major turn-off for me. Jedi, the Special Editions, the Prequels, TFA...all of it makes me kind of want to hurl at the thought of how much I used to love and live & breathe this universe.

But then they made Rogue One, and with that one movie it all came flooding back for me. Just watched it again the other night and I now realize I love it unreservedly. Just like so much of Jedi onward made the first two films retroactively shittier for me, RO restored my faith in what was cool about it all.
(BTW- no offense to people that love Jedi and the other stuff- it's just my own personal prejudices- I have several friends who are total SW nerds and love it all.)

I don't want to get started on buying a ton of SW stuff now- but a few representative tchotchkes I'm now feeling would be nice have. Prior to ordering the Hoth Leia, I can't think of anything of an object/toy related nature that I own relating to SW. Not even stuff from my childhood.
Alien stuff? Sure. Superheroes? Absolutely!
But no SW.

So I ordered the Probe droid. The positive comments here coupled with a couple youtube reviews pushed me over the edge. The $25 discount was also a big incentive, but it basically only made their over priced shipping moot.
Looked around at other vendors and everyone was out of Han so I guess I should jump on that one and not wait around too long. The 5% off coupon on Chewie is still good, so I'm probably going to flex him and Han later today as well.

Hot Toys are addicting I think when you get one you realize how impressive they are and want more. I've really been sucked into Star Wars collecting. There's so much variety to choose from that it's easy to buy a bunch.

I love the Original Trilogy all around. Jedi Luke is one of my most anticipated figures coming soon. Also looking forward to Emperor Palpatine.

Noticing a lot of people are very excited for that Luke figure. Objectively I can honestly say it does look good. Likeness is strong, tailoring, etc all on point. If I were a fan of the film, I'm sure I would be amped for it too.

It's easy to comprehend the addictive aspect of the HTs.
The scale (which would have seemed huge to me back in the heyday of the Kenner figures) seems to hit a sweet spot for encouraging building up those collections. And the price points, at least compared to things like statues and props, helps too.

All this time, I don't think I've ever seen an HT figure in person. I'm psyching myself up to expect an old Mego sized figure. I'm more used to 1/5 and 1/4 scale stuff, so I don't want to be underwhelmed when they finally start to arrive.

Just ordered this.

Hoping they do the rest of the Monsters. Mezco announced at Comic-Con a Michael Meyers from the original Halloween that is a must have.

Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

Damn! $70 for a 7" figure? Wow.

At that price point, why not just pick up the Universal Silver Screen Edition monsters that were put out in the early aughts? I've got a Bride Of Frank here that has an incredible likeness of Lanchester. I think it's also in 1:12 scale.

There a cool diorama doorway that you can get for the Frank figure...but the $120 sticker price seems high to me. But it does look cool.

That's ok. It's better than having more expensive and dangerous hobbies like addicted to buying pussy, strip clubs, excessive drinking, drugs, etc.

Yep, I doubt anyone has ever contracted herpes from a Hot Toys figure.

So looks like our next Original Trilogy character going up for pre-order is Grand Moff Tarkin. Pretty awesome that he's being made. He's available on his own or in a two pack with a re-release of Vader.

The resemblance to CGI Tarkin from Rogue One is uncanny.

Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

Just came here to post this. Mike you are on the ball. While the prequels aren't the best, that figure is great. I think they nailed the headsculpt. Wonder why they didn't release a deluxe version with the Sith eyes headsculpt. Still ordering it though since I don't have a Jedi Anakin in my collection yet.

I don't think I'll get it. It would have been a good idea to have put Obi-Wan at the same time. If they had done that I'd have been more tempted.

Hot Toys unveiled their Kylo Ren from The Last Jedi. Looks pretty good overall but I like aspects of the outfit from The Force Awakens a bit more. I prefer the hooded cloak over the more cape look he has now. Glad this one comes with an unmasked head sculpt.

^ Isn't there as small part of you that wishes there was a Matt Radar Technician figure to go along with it?

that'd be good. Side note I see BBTS now has joined Sideshow in charging a non refundable deposit. It was nice not having that while it lasted..
