I know, but i'm referring to your initial post calling it strange that EW reported it and Giantrobo's direct response that cited the click bait stuff. Although even the linked comicbook.com article doesn't sensationalize the Crudup news or treat it like it's doomsday for the movie, so maybe i'm fortunate that I don't read the other fan/blogger sites that actually do that sort of thing.

'The Flash': Matthew Vaughn, Robert Zemeckis, Sam Raimi on Shortlist to Direct

Sam Raimi would be a great choice but I suspect he has no real shot at getting the gig.

These names all sound like PR fluff meant to counter negative buzz. I don't think an established name ends up directing the Flash.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Met With DC About ‘The Flash’ During Han Solo Hiatus (Exclusive)

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller met with DC Films during the production hiatus of the Star Wars “Han Solo” spinoff, insiders exclusively told TheWrap.

The duo met about the possibility of directing “The Flash” after Rick Famuyiwa left the project over creative differences last year, according to multiple individuals familiar with the project. It was unclear whether they were already considering an exit from the “Han Solo” project.

‘Flashpoint': DC Sets Fresh Start for Ezra Miller’s ‘The Flash’ Movie

Warner Bros. is discarding previous plans for its upcoming movie about DC Comics superhero “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller in the title role, and has opted for a new direction based on the 2011 DC Comics miniseries “Flashpoint.”

The announcement was made Saturday morning during Warner’s Hall H presentation at Comic-Con 2017.

Written by DC Entertainment President and CCO Geoff Johns, the “Flashpoint” comics storyline sees Barry Allen/The Flash travel back in time to avert the murder of his mother. However, when he returns to the present, his mother is still alive but the world is a nightmare, the Justice League doesn’t exist, and Barry must do everything he can to set things right… or as close to right as possible.

I guess it makes sense as to why the other heroes wouldn't be around but CW's been doing it so well...

re: The Flash (2023, D: Muschietti) - S: Miller, Keaton and Affleck

The movie is officially called "Flashpoint" now according to that Wrap article:

Warner Bros. has settled on a title and concept for its upcoming movie about DC Comics superhero “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller in the title role: “Flashpoint,” based on the 2011 DC Comics miniseries of the same name.
Now they just need to get a script ready and hire a director.

As good a story as Flashpoint is it feels like it's been done so many times already. Not on film granted but the comic, animated form, tv form. Isn't there anything else that can be done with the character? I guess in ways it seems to make sense with the Knightmare sequence of Batman V Superman as that feels like it could tie in.

If they go all out and do Flashpoint from the comics with Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Batman that would be amazing.

"Flashpoint" - could this be a soft reboot of the DCEU where they get rid of Affleck and get someone else to play Bruce Wayne?

I really hope not. I don't like the idea of soft-rebooting the cinematic universes at all, but especially this early in the game.

Wouldn't have much choice. Let's say Affleck is signed on for one more, The Batman, well kind of really muck things up if Matt Reeves wants to do a trilogy with another actor for the two sequels. Not really neat, but it's a decent idea to use Flashpoint.

BTW, and I forgot about this, in the Flashpoint comic book, The Flash so wreaks the timeline that Thomas and Martha Wayne live but their son Bruce is killed leading Thomas to become Batman to avenge his son's death (and IIRC actually uses a gun to exact it). If that stays in some form, I wonder if we'll see Jeffrey Dean Morgan in a Bat suit...

Comicbook.com discussed that theory today.

JDM tweeted this too:

JDM as flashpoint Batman would be awesome they could make it as Barry as a newbie just learning what he can do and he realizes in the end he shouldn't fuck with the timeline and set things back. Doesn't have to be a reboot of any kind

re: The Flash (2023, D: Muschietti) - S: Miller, Keaton and Affleck

Flashpoint is actually a solid idea, if they go all out and take it as far as the comic did. The show is amazing but with all the character restrictions, CW's Flashpoint was definitely lacking compared to it's comic counterpart.

Also this gives more breathing room between the show and the film versions of the Flash. This will take a couple years to get made, then another couple before another Flash film. By that time the show will probably be winding down.

Well, the reason he even messed with the timeline was to save his mother from being murdered (and thus father incarcerated for the crime he didn't commit).

re: The Flash (2023, D: Muschietti) - S: Miller, Keaton and Affleck

Flashpoint worked better as a standalone story when it rebooted decades of comic book continuity known to pretty much everyone. I suspect this will be a Flashpoint similar to what we got on the CW show.

It wouldn't bother me if they actually rebooted the entire movie universe using Flashpoint. I don't think Affleck wants to be Batman anymore and WB wants a younger actor to fill the role for the next decade.

For now I'll take Affleck at his word that he does, of course what else would he say? But if they want to go younger, and it would avoid asking where are the other Justice Leaguers, just go the prequel route with solo Batman movies.

We don't know what exactly from Flashpoint they're "mining". Hell, they don't even have a director so this is something we likely won't see until 2020, at the earliest (or at all to be honest).

Gadot is also expected to reprise her role as Wonder Woman in the upcoming production of Flashpoint, which will be Flash's solo movie but is also more of another superhero team-up featuring several additional DC superheroes. Flashpoint is currently scheduled to release in 2020.
