Empire Strikes Back: Original Emperor or New Emperor (video inside)

Video for the entire new Emperor scene done for the Empire DVD has been released.

http://s90708385.onlinehome.us/TheHemperer.mpg

All I can say is that Ian played the Emperor real shitty this time around. This damn thing needs another reshoot.

BTW, they digtally altered Han's dark blue coat during the carbon freeze part.

I'd have to see the other to compare and contrast... but while I'm waiting, I'll just say that Luca$ raped my childhood and he should die.

Lucas's bold attempt to reassemble Star Wars episodes all together. If he is trying make a perfect trilogy by corresponding every event through simple adding or re-editing, it does not become creative or insightful. Especially when they are unnecessary.

Does audience really need to hear the obvious? It was Luke Skywalker who destroyed the Death Star. He is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker. The added conversation does not help the film to progress expect repeating what is known. Also Darth Vader questioning the Emperor with ˇ°How is it possible?ˇ± attitude is bit hard to sallow at first for me.

Overall I am very disappointed with the new version.

It's been a while since I saw "Empire", but did the dialogue just change from the original version??

I'm all for adding enhancements to make the movie look a bit better but this and that pic (fake or not) in ROTJ where the original "old" Anakin is replaced by Hayden Christiansen

Might as well go all out and add Jar Jar hiding in a corner listening to the Emperor's conversation

George Lucas working on his Star Wars films is like Michael Jackson working on his face. Both are trying to reach a level of perfection that is absolutely unattainable and impossible.

And the more they tinker.......the more they f*** up.

I usually don't care much about his tinkering with the OT, but that dialogue is pretty horrid.

A good thing this wasn't posted at the Jedi Council; they would praise it as a masterful edit and if you even questioned its integrity it would be a flame war.

Doesn't sound so different from here. I'm waiting for the Lucas apologists and their empty rationalizations.

I am shocked. SHOCKED I SAY! that you would take such an opposing view towards any sort of change to the star wars trilogy! Surely I would have thunk that you would support lucas based on all your SW post in the past.

shocked I say. simply shocked.

I haven't learned my lesson yet about opening SW threads....big f'ing waste of time. Even the sarcastic "raped my childhood" responses are old and flat anymore, even more than the ones who are serious about it. I believe SW fans are just outta luck when it comes to actual intelligent conversation about the movies and their changes. These threads immediately descend into vitriol.

You have used that line at least three times in different threads in the past.

Its time for some new material. Your routine is stale.

Actually just one time and one time only, in the thread titled "Revenge of the Sith it is!!" Thanks for the almost-heads up, though.

Vader: "How is it possible?"
Emp: "Well Vader, I think you were there with that skank of an ex wife of yours. You tell me!"

well, all the fans who were screaming to see Ian in the film got their wish.
and they got a bonus- Lucas's patented clunky ham fisted, completely unnecessary expositional dialouge extension to go with it.
and yeah, that line reading is lame.
a good illustration of why i never liked the way he essayed the part.

sadly- it's yet another scene where i will have my finger poised over the chapter skip button.

and i really doubt we will ever get access to the original, far better versions of these films.
that would amount to Lucas admitting that all the work he put into these revisions was lame and unappreciated.

just ain't gonna happen.
tell a lie often enough and eventually it will stick as the truth.
just like these sorry @ss revisions will endure for years to come.

Here is the original dialogue from the original scene:

[speaking to hologram]

V: What is thy bidding, my master?

E: There is a great disturbance in the force.

V: I have felt it.

E: We have a new enemy. Luke Skywalker.

V: Yes, my master.

E: He could destroy us.

V: He’s just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.

E: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.

V: If he could be turned, he would become a powerful ally.

E: Yes. (coming to realization) Yes. He would be a great asset. Can it be done?

V: He will join us or die, my Master.
