Ellen Degeneres is God!
From the NY Post
That should stir up the religious mafia.
DeGeneres to Star in'Oh, God!' Remake
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Comedian Ellen DeGeneres is getting a promotion - to supreme being. DeGeneres will star as God in a remake of the 1977 comedy "Oh, God!"
The original starred George Burns as the creator and John Denver as a supermarket manager tapped as a new prophet.
"Ellen is a strong comedian and she has always done material about God and questions about God," said Jerry Weintraub, who produced the original movie and also will oversee the remake.
Weintraub said he'll hire a screenwriter and director with the aim to shoot the movie during a break in DeGeneres' schedule from her talk show next summer.
Though successful on the small screen,
DeGeneres misfired in an earlier transition to film with the romantic-comedy flop "Mr. Wrong." She helped score a hit with her voice work on last year's animated tale "Finding Nemo."

I think she's hilarious with standup. Hopefully this will be good.
And oh me, oh my...She's gay and she's playing god...Let's devote our lives to complaining about things that won't matter 100 years from now.

my problem with this has nothing to do with her being a lesbian, it has to do with hollywood making lots of remakes instead of original stuff
and I don't find her very funny

I'm assuming you haven't seen her latest HBO standup act, it came out last summer I think. She was back to old form. Great writing and a funny-as-hell show.
Also, her talk show is good too.
That being said, her HBO act before the last one, where she did Broadway or something, was almost unwatchable.

I'd have thought she would play the role of John Denver. She kinda looks like him except for the, you know, mangled and burned jet crash look he sports these days.
For the love of GOD, can we stop remaking movies?

Sure why not. Oh God! isn't exactly some revered classic story, it's a fairly simple concept that could work well with a good comedian. And Ellen I happen to think is quite funny (barring a few years of her TV show which got too bogged down with other issues) but in top form, which Ellen is doing quite well right now, she can be excellent.
So hopefully this is good. Though in truth, we'll have to wait and see...Ellen's movies I don't recall being too good. Mr. Wrong was it?
