Just caught this one on HBO- stomps all over the motion picture Batmans. Nicely animated, well acted, with a great soundtrack.

Now my 2nd favorite next to Mask of the Phantasm.

Unlike Phantasm and Batwoman I'm fairly certain this one was animated in 4:3, so don't be afraid to pick up the DVD.

I disliked Subzero, but I really hated Batwomen.

I enjoyed it. Not as good as Phantasm but good nonetheless. Great ending.

As long as we're not counting Return of the Joker (Batman Beyond), I suppose Sub-Zero would take second by default, although I didn't love it by any means. I thought Mystery of the Batwoman was a shallow retread of the Phantasm plot, but I still found it moderately entertaining despite that (but still ranked after Sub-Zero).

This just makes me all the more anxious for Superman: The Animated Series to come out on DVD so we can get to those great crossover episodes in season 3 like World's Finest.

I agree, I think animated Batman is probably the greatest format for him.

Big fan of all the animated shows and most of the movies.

Watching this reminds me just how far the animation of the current WB crop of shows have fallen. JL Unlimited doesn't hold a candle to this.

How does this compare to my absolute favourite Batman:TAS episode, 'Heart of Ice'? It is my second favourite Batman story after Dark Knight Returns.

Just beautifully made and haunting in its themes.

Yeah the two parters like robins reckoning, feat of clay and two-face on the animated series were emmy winners, sub-zero and batwoman are shit compared to those. But, imo, the order goes

1. Mask of the Phantasm


also with a great score.

2. Batman/Superman worlds finest


3. Batman Beyond Return of the Joker


4. Batman Subzero


5. Batman


12. Batman Mystery of the Batwoman

That its easier to reproduce a comic book character to a format which is closer to it (animated film).

Reproducing a comic book character to an animated film is a much smaller stretch than it is to go from comic book to live action.

I disagree. The animated movies have been much more intelligent and adult than any of the Batman movies. I think that more than anything is why most of us like them more.

They're better acted too.

I whole heartedly agree. It is much more than the medium. Both Spiderman and X-Men have made a successful transition to the big screen and many regard Superman to be the greatest comic book movie yet. While each of these had their own animated series, in terms of Batman the cartoons FAR outweigh the live action movies in plot, depth of character, and definately art direction.

After hearing all the hype on Batman: MoP, I was expecting to be blown away. It was good, but good in a good teen/pre-teen novel sort of way.

I remember renting the VHS/Catching MoP on cable and being very entertained, but I can't remember anything special about it. Then again, I was probably 12ish or something like that at the time, so I'll give it another check out.

Return of the Joker is better, but if you're only counting classic bats, then Subzero is pretty darn good.

Never seen SubZero actually. All I know is that Batwoman really sucked.

Phantasm RULES though. Best Batman movie ever. I really wish the Animated series had more two parters... because rewatching the episodes on DVD, those are by far the best ones, while most others seem fairly rushed. I can't imagine the quality Heart of Ice would have been if it was a two parter.
