I'd say far too much. I unfortunately had to stop following him entirely because most of his posts are political b.s.

Ditto on Mark Frost.

If it's true, it's even more of a jab. Like if a friend is ribbing me about something and I say "Yeah, well your wife cheated on you with your brother." That little jab shuts him right the hell up.

I don't think the Kubrick thing is a jab, it is an attempt to say that King has integrity. One might respond to the article, "Of course King thinks the new IT movie is great and everyone should see it, he benefits enormously if it's successful." The writer is reminding those cynics that King isn't afraid to state his true opinion, negative or positive. Whether or not King's dismissal of The Shining is correct isn't the point.

The best answer.

I know he gave thumbs up to the 1997 Shining mini-series that was complete garbage and the Tommyknockers movie which was even worse. I love his writing but if he gives a thumbs up on any of his movie adaptations be concerned.

Was hoping for news about the movie, not a half-page of hack posters re-hashing the whole The Shining thing for the purpose of sensationalism ...

He's is a writer/producer on that one though so that's easy to dismiss.

To be honest, the original IT was pretty crappy. Clowns don't bother me, so Pennywise wasn't that scary. And all the tv actors didn't impress me.

To me, the bar isn't that high for this to be an improvement.

The cast of young actors and Tim Curry were outstanding.

The thing about King is that, when he has input in his film/tv projects, they're generally awful. They're like bad soap operas -- bad acting, overlit, stilted dialogue. Maximum Overdrive, The Shining mini, Under the Dome. All wretched.

But the finale with the adults and the spider were awful.

I don't really care what King says. Adaptations of his works are all over the place, and most of them get his thumb's up. He has so many cool stories, it's such a drag that they can't be consistently transitioned to the screen.

I'm excited to see this, but I feel horrible for my wife who has a terrible fear of clowns. Any clowns, but scary ones especially. She won't see the movie, but she'll have to suffer through the commercials, trailers, and worst of all, subway and bus stop ads.
I don't get why so many people are terrified of clowns - I think they're great entertainers - but I do feel bad for them while this movie gets promoted.

How many times have you dressed up as a clown and scared the shit out of her when she came home from work?

Man, I'd really like to see more from this and Dark Tower at this point. I do appreciate that the drip feed of media has started, but I'm very curious about these two, and honestly keep forgetting they exist.

If I was a young child I would totally get as close as possible to a clown who looks like THAT hiding in a sewer...

re: Stephen King's IT (2017, D: Andrés Muschietti)

When I was a kid, clowns scared the living shit out of me. If I went to a birthday party with a clown, I would have run out of there screaming. Or to be sick in the hospital and have a clown visit me? I probably would have gone into cardiac arrest.

Are there any kids who actually like clowns?

Yeah. It's a complete fail. He's not supposed to look menacing at first.

Just a guess but I assume in that shot the kid is reaching for his boat that went into the sewer when Pennywise leans forward from the shadows.

re: Stephen King's IT (2017, D: Andrés Muschietti)

“There’s supposed to be a less-is-more thing in horror,” It’s Argentine director Andrés Muschietti tells Empire in the new issue. “It’s like you’re not really meant to show the monster. But Pennywise is different. With Pennywise, it’s like, ‘This is the monster, I’m showing it to you... and you’re going to shit a brick.’”
Not digging this quote, and I think the director is over-hyping how scary this movie/Pennywise is going to be. It's a shame they lost Fukunaga.
