Dirty Dancing 2: Electric Bugaloo?
No, that's not the title of this sequel, but this movie is in the works (just one of many interesting 2003 releases listed in this thread):
DIRTY DANCING 2: HAVANA NIGHTS: An update of the 1987 hit, following a Cuban ballroom dancer’s fling with a pool boy. (November)
I'm not really surprised by the number of sequels--studios will try to make one for any movie that is a box office success--but this is just kind of odd. Are they hoping to take a movie unrelated to the original and give it a box office boost by slapping the name of a popular 80s movie on it?

Trailer for Sequel to Dirty Dancing (Seriously!)
Artisan just released this teaser trailer for "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" on the quicktime website.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/artisa...ghavananights/
and according to IMDB:
Personally, if a sequel HAD to be made, I would of titled it: 2 Dirty 2 Dance

I was worried about this when i first heard they were doing a sequel. but once I found out that it would be set in Havana, I was like, there is NO WAY this can suck, I repeat... THIS CANNOT SUCK, because anything set in Havana has got to be kick arse. Ya dig?

When this movie was filming here in Puerto Rico it was being advertised as a prequel to the first movie that is set in 1950's Cuba (or perhaps earlier since I don't remember the date anymore). It's really a prequel in nameonly since none of the characters are related to those of the first film and the title Dirty Dancing 2 was only used to capitalize of the success of the first film.

Bright Cucumber,
He plays a different character than he did in the first film and, unless things changed during filming, he has only one line. When the two leads are going to a party he says something like "have the time of your lives." As cheezy as that sounds, it's true. He just gets a cameo and his line is a reference to a song from the first film.

...but yes, that is a cheesy line! LOL
I can picture it in my mind: as he says the line, the camera zooms in on his face as he breaks the fourth wall and looks directly at the camera and winks...

I say if you're not going to have ANY of the original actors in it then don't call it a damn sequel... how hard would it be to think of a name for this and make it it's own movie...

Wow, by the looks of the movie Havana was an idyllic playground before Castro ruined it . Another revisionist movie set to help show, that the past wasn't EVER full of problems. Well, at least problems dancing can't fix.

Your not old enough to appreciate the way we danced in the 1963, for you weren't even an itch in your daddy's pants yet. LOL
P.S. I love this film it's about the time I was a teenager, "Do you Love Me" I danced at our Meuser swimming pool, where we had our saturday night dances. You have to have been there to appreciate a movie like this. I am 56 Years young when it comes to rembering how we danced.

Also, while I kind of agree that if you aren't going to have the same actors, if you're a studio, and you own the rights to the name Dirty Dancing - why not just slap it on the film and hope to draw in those who love the first one...

Ah, so those people that were looking for dancers with a "latin, voodoo flavor" were using them for this movie. Sometimes producers need to be shot.

kantboy,
Yup. Some friends of mine tried land roles as extras but were never called back.
What part of PR are you from?
