Best news regarding horror in a long while!
After mediocre studio horror and various remakes, George A. Romero has finally after 19 years got finacing for Land of the Dead, his fourth zombie movie, which began with 1968's Night of the Living Dead. Go to www.creature-corner.com for more info.
I always thought this would never see the light of day, but sometimes the movie Gods answer. After remaking two of the dead films (with The Crazies remake set for next fall), and numerous copies and homages, finally let the originator show us how it's to be done.
Next year is shaping up very nicely, I must say. BTW, his Diamond Dead might start Jan/Feb 2005 after wrapping this.

I know this may be blasphemous, but I think there's a good reason Romero couldn't get financing. I love night of the living dead, and I can appreciate the concepts of Dawn and Day, but after re-watching them a few months ago I found the execution to be seriously lacking. The pace was torturous at points.

But Hollywood making movies that are too slow is not a complaint I would make.

...and why there were problems with him and the movie Resident Evil. Romero isn't all that great.

Interesting. I've always considered Night, Dawn, Day, the three best zombie cannibal films (obviously, not including White Zombie, or Deathdream, or Dead & Buried-those aren't cannibal zombies), but I always thought Romero should be a premier director, but he never got any support.

So incredibly pumped for this.
I love all the Dead movies. And I adore Day, it catches way too much flack. It was just too dark for the 80s and as a follow up to Dawn, but I think it fits in very nicely with the nineties attitude. The zombies and FX work is still some of the best today.
I love Romero, and I have full confidence he can do another great Dead film, it's what he's best at.
Here's hoping it's financialy feasible to film it in Pittsburgh, because it's a gurantee I'll make a trip to be a zombie extra in it.

Finally a new horror film to look forward to.
Even a mediocre romero movie is a hell of a lot better than most of the crap that is released nowadays.
Not so sure about the title "Land of the dead"
For some strange reason that title evokes ireland and leprechauns prancing merrily in a field of clovers for me.
