I have to know in Superman comics what the name of the city was in a jar?

I picked up a box of old comics(some Superman) at a estate auction....one depicts a city that was in a jar minaturized by someone, the last surviving city of Krypton. What was the name of the city? I would like the next Superman movie to include the lost city in the next movie by the guy who flys.

You older guys ought to know that one you can teach us youngers guys some Superman lore like this one. TIA

It is Kandor. There was also a Superfriends episode (Superman keeps the jar at the Fortress of Solitude) that featured some of the residents of Kandor.

If it was in the book forum, there wouldn't be an answer to the question for over a week.

Has something to do with Harvey Dent/ TwoFace, I'm sure.

I am a member of the IMDb and not a soul has been able to come up with the correct name of Kandor. Someone did come up with that explains it all URL, which to me I never knew what year Superman started.

Sorry I am not into Batman most of the old comics in the box were Submariner, Fantastic Four, Archie, and of course Superman.

In the comic books, the Penny comes from fighting a criminal called the Penny Plunderer way back in Worlds Finest Issue #30 (1947). It is a 1947 penny for those that are interested.

In the animated series I believe Two-Face tried to kill him with it.

The Dinosaur is from Batman #35 (1946) when Batman went to Dinosaur Island.

Fun facts about the bottled city of Kandor:

Kandor was a Kryptonian city that had been shrunken by Brainiac before Krypton exploded. Brainiac flew around the galaxy shrinking cities and putting them in bottles. Note that this character was created long before anyone ever heard of a comic book collector.

Kandor first appeared in Action Comics #242, which was also Brainiac's first appearance. In this story, Brainiac shrunk a bunch of Earth cities, including Metropolis, but Superman saved the day with the help of Professor Kimda, who lived in Kandor. Professor Kimda was Superman's father's college roommate. Small world ... er, bottle. You can read the debut story here.

Because Kandor was a Kryptonian city, Superman didn't have any powers there. In some stories, when he adventured in Kandor, he took the identity Nightwing, and acted as Kandor's answer to Batman. Later, Dick Grayson, the original Robin, took the identity Nightwaing partly in homage to Superman, who was like a second father to him (after Batman, of course). Jimmy Olsen was Nightwing's sidekick, Flamebird. You can read the first Nightwing and Flamebird story here.

Sometimes, the Superman Emergency Squad would emerge from Kandor to help Superman with emergencies. This was a group of Kandor citizens wearing Superman costumes with Superman's powers. Of course, they were all shrunken, so they were very tiny.

In later years, writers got some melodrama out of Kandor by portraying it as one of Superman's great failures -- for all his power, he couldn't figure out how to restore the city. Superman's other great failure was his inability to cure Mon-El, a friend of his who had been poisoned and was waiting patiently in the Phantom Zone until Superman could cure him. Mon-El was eventually cured in the 30th century by Brainiac 5, the heroic descendant of Brainiac.

One of Superman's friends in Kandor was Van-Zee, who looked exactly like Superman. Van-Zee's wife, Sylvia, looked exactly like Lois Lane. What a coincidence (and useful plot device)!

It all depends on the tale, according to the Animated Series the coin was actually used by Harvey Dent in an attempted murder on Batman, comic's version varies... Either way, Batman has a bunch of battle memoribilia in the cave (much like President Bush. ) ... He even has a huncback named Harold locked away down there!

I never did read the original story about the giant penny. But I remember a World's Finest story wherein Batman is touring a duplicate Batcave and notes, "They even have a replica of my trophy from the Joker's 'Bad Penny' Crimes!"

And there was such a story in World's Finest #156.

Use Find to look for the phrase bad penny on this text-heavy page.

How many points will I need to spend to acquire a mint condition copy of the Spider-Man comic book in which Stan Lee refers to the character as "Peter Palmer?"
