Will 9/11 be nominated for best picture?

Just want to know what people think,do you think that 9/11 could become the first documentry to be nominated for best picture. Also do you think it will be nominated for best documentry and best picture or just one or the other?

I would think it would be a lock for the Documentary category.

I would imagine, if the members of the academy wanted to make a statement, it could receive enough votes to be nominated for Best Picture. I'd tend to doubt this would happen. As was evidenced by the cheers along with boos when he gave his speech when winning the Oscar, there's a lot of division in the Hollywood community.

So, I don't see it happening.

Personally, I don't feel it's that good of a picture. So no.

Since it is classified as a documentary, I don't think it will be able to compete in that category.

If it is, then I think there will be need for a new forum area on DVDTalk set aside exclusively for bitching about Michael Moore.

Acording to Academy rules documentries have always been eligible for best picture nomanations(as long as they are feature length presentations and have had a theatrical release),its just none in the history of the awards have been nominated for best picture so far.Actually it is possible for 9/11 to recieve 2 nomanations one for best documentry and one for best picture. There are some rumblings in hollywood that 9/11 might actually get a best picture nomination.

Here is a link to the story that made me start thinking 9/11 might actually be nominated for best Picture

It will probably win best doc, but I highly doubt it would be nominated for best picture.

It will probably get a nod for Best Feature-Length Documentary, but I don't see it getting one for Best Picture.

I don't see it getting nominated for Best Picture, but I can definitely see Michael Moore being nominated for Best Director and/or Best Original (?) Screenplay in addition to being nominated for Best Feature Length Documentary.

Not a chance, though, as he can't even say three words without effing up his lines.

I'm still chuckling over "Abu Garef."

You think they'll even give him a chance to get up on stage again after the last time? Like a great man once said... "Fool me once, shame on... ... ....shame on you. But foolmah can't get fooled again."

I am not a micheal moore hater, but I don't really see whats so great about the movie, its a pretty good documentry, but best picture, give me a break, then again all the winners win because of money or politics, so it could happen

Not a htaer either but there is no way it will be nominated for best picture when it has it's own section to be nominated in.

If this picture does win "Best Documentary," do you think Moore will decline on the basis that he never claimed the film to be a documentary? I don't think so.

Moore has always called this a documentary. What are you talking about?

If there was a "Best editing what people say to make them say something different" category, I'm sure he'd win

What about "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"? Or "Life is Beautiful"? Or "Il Postino"?

Early prediction (and yes, I know you'll all think I'm crazy): "Fahrenheit 9/11" will win Best Documentary AND either Best Picture or Best Director.

Which is quite disturbing, since it wasn't even a very good movie.

The first two that come to mind are Bush's "Watch this drive!" line, which was meant to imply that he was talking about the terror threat to Americans (he wasn't), and Rice's line conveying a collaboration between Saddam and al-Qaida (she never claimed this, which would be made clear if Moore included the next two sentences in that segment of her testimony).

There are more, and if you're really that curious, I suggest you comb the other Moore threads.

What other films will it go up against in the best pic catagory?

It might get nominated, but doubtful it'll get the award.
