Anyone besides me impatiently waiting for the "Elric of Melnibone" movie?
I've been a fan of Michael Moorcock's books since the late 70s. Just wondering if there's real interest in this movie. Will it be looked at as a "LotR" cling-on? I think if it's handled right, it could be a very dark cult movie. I can't imagine it becoming a huge franchise with Happy Meal toy tie-ins, but could get it's own niche following...
Thoughts?

As I've said here before:

I would love to see this happen. I wonder if there has been any progress. Hopefully they will take their time but with the LOTR success I'm surprised it hasn't been expidited.

McDonald's commercial:
Boy poking sister with Stormbringer replica making sucking sound.
Girl "Mommy !! Tell Billy to stop stealing my soul !!"
I don't think an Elric movie would go over well if done as in the books... for one, a one movie story would hardly even be enough for a setup (and I don't think they'll opt for more than one at first).
Elric is a depressing character really.. Hollywood would reinvent him into action hero until he resembled Blade with a magic sword. Plus, how many Eternal Champion cameos would there be ?
Some books don't translate well and I feel Elric is one of them.

I don't see it. I read only the first book & really didn't see the appeal. The story is just almost too ... well ... simple. I don't recall a lot there to really grip a movie fan.
Maybe I jumped off the wagon too early; maybe the subsequent books were great. But the first one just didn't do much for me.

The dark world of the soulbringer would be awesome...

Maybe some producer or film company would stick a couple of 100millions in my pocket to film it, so the story can be told the right way.
