The Disturbing Movies, Film, and Cinema Thread

the 2001 Polish film Hi, Tereska also deals quite frankly with a underage teenage girl who has a sexual encounter with a much older paraplegic man. Needless to say it's quite hard to watch, since the director and young actress don't really leave much to the imagination of the film viewer.

A couple more which just came to mind and to whose "disturbing" credentials I can attest:
-Der Fan (1982, a.k.a. Trance)
-Born for Hell (a.k.a. Naked Massacre)

The Cremaster Cycle has some intense imagery, but I would hardly call it disturbing. Still, anyone who has a chance to see these, check them out. I saw 1, 2, 4, and 5 at the Arclight when 3 came out. Of course, I couldn't make it to 3, damn it.

Since recently seeing both "In My Skin" and "Twentynine Palms" here are my opinions of the films:
In My Skin: semi-interesting story of a woman who after an accident that inflicts her leg, begins to peel off her skin. Streched out to a little more than an hour and a half and the quiet discomforting tone of the film, it ultimately becomes overindulgent and vapid. While unique in premise, director and lead actress Marina de Van doesn't seem to interested in character development beyond her own, resulting in a film that runs itself into a wall. The gore is convincing and repulsive but the story is slow as molasses and will test and baffle many horror buffs.
Twentynine Palms: Quite bluntly, I loathed this film. Uninteresting characters who I personally could care less about (Yekaterina Golubeva's, Katie is such a neurotic charmless bitch she becomes grating real quickly), a story that meanders to the point where the film's conclusion becomes painfully predictable (for me the pivotal scene was a relief and prompted clapping from some members of the audience waiting for something remarkable to happen). The sex is animalistic and unintentionally funny. Production value is attrocious, three times you can see the DP, camera and director. Even though shot in wide screen, the imagery is surpringly bland. As to the point and message of the film, the film collapses on itself and becomes meaningless and uncaring for it's two characters. This movie was not entertaining it was visual/butt-numbing torture.

DVD Smurf - I believe the release date you're looking for on Archangel would be 2002.

I have something to say about Irreversible:
This is easily (and I mean easily) the most disturbing movie I have ever seen, I'm seriously a little messed up (just got done watching it) what a f****** shock, but I must say that if you want a taste of what happens in the real world, watch this film - it's so bad and may I add that it had some original elements thrown into the mix. I actually had to stop it for a second because I couldn't take it............call me a punk if you will but "that one scene" was hard to stomach for so long.

This might seem stupid but I thought Anger Management was very disturbing. I hate those movies where the whole world seems to have gone mad except for one person grounded in reality.
U-Turn was pretty disturbing.

Joon-ho Bong's 2003 South Korean film: 'Memories of Murder' - what the murderer does to the victims makes the stomach churn. Excellent movie by the way.

Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes, The (1971)
Didn't see this one listed. Stan Brakhage filmed actual autopsies in Pittsburgh (thankfully no children). Out of what I've seen, this one easily takes the lead for Most Disturbing.

What year is Hardcore from? I assume it is the one with the killer robot, right?
I have also added these films:
STORYTELLING (2001)
BAISE-MOI (2000)
MAMMA ROMA (1962)
EVIL (2003)
BATTLES WITHOUT HONOR AND HUMANITY (1973)
By the way, Memories of Murder is a brilliant film as it also dives into governmental issues of the 80s South Korea. I really liked this film, which I consider a must buy.
Cheers

I thought of Hardware, but thanks for Hardcore (1979)
