Concept: Take a boring story, remove the explosions and special effect scenes, crop off the edges to make it full frame, take out the color, and combine 6 channels into a dull mono mix.
Result: Citizen Kane

concept: take a legend of sci-fi filled with very interesting and provacative social commentary and combine that with great special effects and a hot young cast.
reality: Starship Troopers.
being a fan of the book, ST may be the biggest film dissapointment to me. I know lots of people liked it, but honestly, it was crap.

Concept: Take 3 of the funniest, most successful comedic actors from the 70's and 80's, throw in a hot young actress fresh off an incredibly popular and academy award-nominated film, and have them play numerous characters in a bizarre, dark comedy.

Mortal kombat annihilation suuuuucked... I really enjoyed the first but the second one made me want to gouge my eyes out with pieces of popcorn at the theater (oh by the way salt stings when you get it in your eye) but the pain was well worth it to not have to endure another minute of that monstrosity

Concept: Adapt a superb satire of modern-day society and the media written by a great author with a strong cast and a visually-talented director into a highly anticipated feature

Concept: Take an established movie franchise and an ultra-famous comic book hero and then give him rubber nipples. Then turn the city he lives in from dark and dreary into the neon capital of the world. Recast the main role twice, and keep adding sidekicks and villians until you kill the franchise.
Reality: Batman and Robin
Okay, so maybe that wasn't a good idea

Concept: Take a long dead genre, the pirate movie, and put a virtually unknown director at the helm with a large budget. On top of that, cast a well-respected actor as the lead. Oh, and let's base it on a theme park ride.
The result: Pirates of the Caribbean

Concept: get a young cast with one who's name reminds you of a porn star. A flesh eating virus takes them out one by one while having to tolerate a horrible script and slow pacing.
Result: Cabin Fever
Concept: A crappy remake with Jessica Biel.

EDIT:
Wow, I looked up Van Dien's IMDB record to see whatever happened to him. I though he fell of the face of the Earth, but the guy has been making a buttload of movies. He has 30 projects listed since Starship Troopers, but I haven't heard of a single one.
