Ella Enchanted ...
The movie has been out for a few weeks now, but I only managed to see it today with my 10-yr old daughter.
And what an enchanting movie it was. If you liked Shrek .. The Princess Bride .. Ever After .. 10th Kingdom .. then you'd love this movie. It retreads familair ground in that it is a souped-up semi-modernised amalgam of various fairy tales like the movies mentioned .. but it is very enjoyable nontheless.
And I have to say that Anne Hathaway sparkles. She's going to be a huge star still.
I don't know how the movie compares to the book, but if you have kids ... definitely take them to see this. It's one of those rare movies that kids and parents can enjoy equally.

Very enjoyable movie. Sure, it takes ideas from the movies that you mentioned, Saxofonix, but it still pulls it off. The second half does get a little bogged down in the love story (sorry, I'm a 34-year-old male and not big on romantic comedies), but overall I liked it a lot. The musical numbers were great too.
It's disappointing that this film hasn't found an audience though. At last report, it won't even break even. It's budget was $35 million and it has only made a little over half of that. Of course, it is from MiramAXE so I get a little sense of malicious satisfaction when some of their evil plans don't pan out.
Speaking of which, the trailer for ELLA ENCHANTED is so similar to SHAOLIN SOCCER, giving everything away. And throughout EE I couldn't help wondering what was left on the cutting room floor for pacing reasons. Stupid MiramAXE...

Rented this on DVD, watched it with my wife (the trade-off is that she must watch Old School with me).
Started off okay, but gradually got worse and worse. The Shrek rip-offs were pretty blatant too.
I haven't seen a lot of movies this year, but Ella Enchanted is easily the worst.
