2004 MTV Movie Award Nominations Announced!

Why in the world is 50 First Dates a BEST MOVIE nominee? That spot should have gone to Kill Bill Volume 1 in my opinion.

2004 MTV Movie Award Nominations Announced! Source: MTV Wednesday, April 21, 2004

MTV: Music Television today announced the nominees for the 2004 MTV Movie Awards. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl tops this year's nominee list with six nominations. 50 First Dates and X2: X-Men United are tied with four nominations each. The star-studded thirteenth annual awards ceremony will air on June 10th at 9PM (ET/PT). The winners will be revealed at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards, which will be taped on June 5th at Sony Picture Studios in Culver City, CA.

"Only at the MTV Movie Awards, will you see a category that pits a veterinarian vs. a samurai vs. a swashbuckling pirate," said Van Toffler, President, MTV/MTV2 and MTV Films. "In its thirteenth year, all of our nominees reflect the diverse taste of the MTV audience and this year's show will be no exception with funny films and moments."

The nominees for the 2004 MTV Movie Awards are chosen through a national poll of MTV and MTV2 viewers. The winners will be determined by MTV and MTV2 viewers, and only Virgin Mobile USA customers will be able to vote from the "*MTV" area on their phone screens, found under "VirginXtras." In addition, votes can be cast from April 21 through May 19 online by visiting MTV.com or by telephone at 900-868-1100 at 99 cents per call (must be 18 years or older to call).

The 2004 MTV Movie Awards will be seen in 166 countries/territories via 42 music programming services, and in 18 languages in over 401.8 million households.

Whatever happened to Most Desirable Female? I remember that being around when the awards first started. I would have voted for Uma all the way!

Here's hoping that next year they might give more recognition to Kill Bill vol.2 and maybe Carradine as best villain.

With a few exceptions, this list looks more like a list of Nick Kid's Choice Awards than teen/young adult choices.

I'm really sure The Passion has a shot. And how did Bill Murray slip in there? Adam Sandler, LOTR, and Pirates all the way since MTV is as predictable as an Adam Sandler movie.

Whats up with the range of eligible movies? They include movies as recent as Starsky and Hutch (opened March 5 2004), but movies as old as Bringing Down the House (opened March 7 2003). Has the list of eligible films always been March -> March ?

Kind of interesting. This show always lets Carrey win no matter what just because they wanna see what kind of act he puts on for the acceptance speech. But those other 4 are solid fan-favorites. Will they let his streak continue?

also they'd let adam sandler win for 50 first dates, since he always does great acceptance speeches whenever he wins.

The MTV Movie Awards is more about the show than the awards. In that respect, it's a fun show to watch.

People keep saying that MTV lets so-and-so win the award, but I thought that winners were picked by the public. Am I completely wrong on this or what?
