Much like mallets scripts. He states that he writes some graphic shit. Now if he was under the impression of what was cut he would have the mentality on what he can and can't get away with writing.

Now to say that the american cut of the battle is how it was intended to be.. well you haven't seen the color version because a lot is added. a lot of moves, flips, kicks, stabs, slashes that makes it an entirely different piece that flows much smoother without the jump cuts that the american version suffered.

I'm not saying that the b&w version is how it was intended to be. I have the R2 Japanese disc and I like the color version better. I just don't think we can dismiss one and say the other is the definitive version.

I don't think we should, either. Tarantino himself has stated he likes both versions. So why argue about it?

I agree Suprmallet, we shouldn't. This was the first disagreement/argument in my short time as a member on this board that I have been in and I must admit it was pretty fun. Everybody kept it respectful.

It seems as if he always intended it to be black and white everywhere but in Japan and Hong Kong.

I don't think we can definitively say one or the other is his true vision or one or the other is not. I am positive, however, that none of us knows Tarantino's thought process regarding the MPAA while he was writing the screenplay.

Exactly correct. He has stated that he likes both. this is like saying which one is better "Blade Runner D.C." or Blade Runner Theater cut" ? it's subjective. both are good, some like one over the other.

dude, I think the proof is in the pudding in mallets q&a question.

It's not like that, because the European theatrical cut is clearly superior to the director's cut.

Let's just end this by saying that myself, Jackieboy and Supermalletdude are right and everyone else is only partly right and/or totally wrong

I haven't seen the color version yet, but judging from the screencaps I saw over in the International forum, I'm gonna have to go with the color here. The black & white definitely works artistically, but it lacked the punch that the red blood seems to convey. There's a couple of shots in the B&W that the blood looks just looks like sweat flying off, like the guy that falls down onto the table.

To me the B&W just seems to fit the style of the movie better.
My wife (who really liked the movie) said they she doesn't think she would have been able to sit thru that scene if it had been in color.

Because the Japanese don't like B&W? I know that sounds stupid but I remember there was a thread a while back that discussed some film that was meant to be seen entirely in B&W but was shown in color in Japan at the request of the distributor.

I think the only extra bonus the Japanese were supposed to get was the extra limbs lost. If we're gonna whine about it he might as well release all the B&W scenes in color (like the beginning of Vol. 1) and totally ruin the mood of those scenes.

Also changed in the film is the character Bill, who is played by Warren Beatty in the Japanese version.
