OK, so I want to find out from all of your replies which one of these two similar themed movies is more popular.

IMHO, it is Braveheart. It is one of my favorite movies of all time and I can watch it anytime it is on tv or when I decide to pop in my DVD.

I'm asking because for some time now I have noticed that Gladiator has become increasingly popular (duh, didn't I notice from the huge box-office and Academy Awards?) I have noticed over time how this movie has been accepted by athletes and others as the Ultimate guy movie. It has become favorite to quote and emulate like Scarface.

I'm 33 years old (not sure if that has anything to do with it) but I find the story and directing in Braveheart to be much more satisfying than Gladiator.

Also, I still can't believe Russell Crowe won an Oscar for that role. Mel didn't even win for Braveheart.

The production flubs of Gladiator sucked. so many crew members could be seen in the back ground, to many engines, equipment, etc. really bring it down so my vote is for Braveheart.

Well in that case you haven't seen Braveheart too many times, that movie is SO full of goofs.

It's ridiculous that goofs themselves would make you call it a bad movie, get you priorities straight!

I'd rather watch the first Conan, but I would have to pick Gladiator for entertainment value. Braveheart was a bit too depressing...

I agree with Tafellappen, both movies are overrated, but Braveheart much more than Gladiator.

Braveheart is the type of Hollywood film where you root for the good guys & hiss at the bad guys because the characters are drawn without any subtlety or shading. At no time was I drawn into the time period of the film and when the Scottish soldiers mooned the British, all logic flew out the window.

Braveheart is the type of historical film that's perfect for those who hate history.

Gladiator and Braveheart are on a par with each other. Lavishly filmed but lacking in substance. Both are fun flicks to watch on movie night at my house, though. When it comes to Braveheart, I really prefer the other Scottish epic Rob Roy. Not nearly as well photographed, but the story and performances still rule.

Braveheart was the first movie in a long time that was able to successfully pull off a historical epic. Gladiator tried to capitalize on that and I feel it came up a little short. Don't get me wrong . . . I really like the movie, but Braveheart was more enjoyable.

One of my friends in college used to say Braveheart was the ultimate date film . . . for the guys you got great battle scenes and hot women (one of whom gets naked) and for the ladies you got Mel Gibson and two romantic love stories.

I'm going to have to go with Gladiator. The story of Braveheart is much better, but as a movie Gladiator is much more sweeping in scope and much more beautiful to look at. The only reason for that of course is Ridley Scott's masterful direction. Mel Gibson is a good director as well, and he won the oscar for Braveheart, but I just find Gladiator to be a much better technical achievement (and I love the time period of the Roman Empire). But one thing I've got to give Braveheart over Gladiator is the lack of massive CGI. I didn't use to mind it so much, but the Lord of the Rings movies have really pissed me off when it comes to excessive CGI.

Braveheart for me, it has it's problems but so many wonderful lines in that movie. something about the intro and the bagpipes just makes you get into it right off the bat

For me its Braveheart. I didn't really give a damn when Maximus, but when it was Wallace's turn I almost shed a tear.

Braveheart gets my vote. Better story and action. Characters are way better as well.

So true. It is so much more emotional. It also seems Braveheart was made to tell a story. Gladiator has this feel like it was made because, well we have the ability to make it.

I like both, also like both soundtracks. I'd have to lean to Gladiator as my choice of the two movies.

Braveheart, hands down. Gladiator seemed almost like a remake of Braveheart, and I just didn't feel it was all that original. Plus, I'm not a big Russell Crowe fan. Ridley Scott did a fantastic job of directing, but that's about the best thing I can say about the movie.
