LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Good news, true believers. Spider-Man is swinging back onto screens in May 2007 for a third outing.
At the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas on Wednesday (March 24), Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the film's proposed launch date and confirmed that Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will reprise their roles as the web-slinger and his love interest, respectively.
Director Sam Raimi will also return to direct the third installment of the comic book franchise.
Sony's enthusiasm for its favorite superhero also extends to "Spider-Man 2," which the studio will release two days earlier than planned, on Wednesday, June 30.
In the second film, Spider-Man (Maguire) must battle the multi-tentacled Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) and deal with his feelings for Mary Jane Watson (Dunst).

We also know that there has been contracts offered for a Spiderman IV, because Dunst two (2) weeks ago said III would be her last.
We all know where that would culminate in III then.

There's a chance MJ might not survive part III due to a desire for vengeance on the part of Harry if he finds out the truth.
I think the best way to do III is to have it actually occur three years after II and have it begin with a Rogues Gallery for Spidey already intact from the years unseen. That way they could give us comic fans the villains we would like to see and wrap-up the story along the way. And yes, I do think three films should be the maximum for any superhero franchise.

In other news, the people at Marvel Comics are even more unoriginal hacks than Hollywood. Why, I hear they're planning to follow up The Amazing Spider-Man 505 with The Amazing Spider-Man 506!
