Question: I just saw the trailer for Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez' Sin City and it is amazing. Two questions: When is it coming out and what's the name of the song used in the trailer? The music has a very familiar ring. — Williem
Flickchick: Sin City, based on Frank Miller's graphic novels "Sin City," "That Yellow Bastard" and "The Big Fat Kill" (with a dash of "A Dame to Kill For"), is codirected by Miller and Robert Rodriguez (with an additional sequence by longtime Rodriguez friend Quentin Tarantino, who was paid a nominal dollar for his contribution). A violent noir pastiche set in the fictional Basin City, it's due out from Dimension Films on April 1, 2005. Many people have remarked that the trailer music sounds like Rodriguez' compositions for Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004). But the song is actually "Cells," by the four-member U.K. band The Servant, three of whom — Dan Black, Matt Fisher and Trevor Sharpe — belonged at various times to the performance art collective Minty, cofounded by London scenemaker Leigh Bowery. Rodriguez was so determined to involve Miller fully in the film that he resigned from the Directors Guild of America so he and Miller could codirect — DGA rules dictate that only one director can be assigned to direct a movie at any given time. The cast includes Mickey Rourke as Marv, Bruce Willis as Lt. John Hartigan and Clive Owen as Dwight McCarthy, respectively the main characters in "Sin City," "That Yellow Bastard" and "The Big Fat Kill."
So, while it doesn't confirm Tarantino directed anything.. Yeah uh theres that hehe.

Those posters don't do much for me. My sister works at a theater and said she'll pick them up if she gets any in, so I'll probably at least end up with a Nancy. I would have at least liked a Merv one. I think they did have one at a comic con or something.
Wonder how they're going to do that. I thought Dame to Kill for was a hell of a lot better than Big Fat Kill... but Big Fat Kill probably would work well on screen.

This trailer brought up some Dick Tracy vibes for me that prevent me from jumping on the "OMG Coolest trailer EVARR!!!111" bandwagon. I try not to prejudge a movie off the trailer, but this one looks like it could be either really good or one of the most awful movies of all time. Odds are 1:1 right now by my estimates. I'll go see it.

So, on that note, what do you guys think of the comics story, or was it more the visual appeal that really made those popular?

The thing that worries me about this (as with all comic book adaptations) is when they try to put too much of the story into a movie . . . introduce to many characters, try to cover too many sub-plots, etc. Some movies do this very well (e.g., Spiderman - only the main character, the important supporting characters, and one villain are introduced and they stuck with only a small part of the overall story) and some do very poorly (e.g., Daredevil - introduced the main character, a supporting character, two villains, and one vllain/love-interest and tried to cover seperate sub-plots with all three villains).
They showed anawful lot of characters in the trailer . . . I'm hoping that they devote enough time to develop them all . . .

just a heads up to those that have not read the comics. they are being re-released in stores tomorrow (2/9). At least the first book (Sin City - Renamed to "The Hard Goodbye") and "The Big Fat Kill" come out tomorrow for sure.
