HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - Finding the answer to whether or not there will be a fourth "Indiana Jones" movie has been as long, complex and elusive as the search for the Holy Grail. One minute it's in front of you, and then it appears to disappear in the mist.

While earlier this summer Harrison Ford toyed with the idea that he would be willing to star in another installment of the blockbuster series, he wouldn't come straight out and say that it was actually happening.

"I'll wait until I get a script that I can commit to, then I'll pick up the whip again," he told Zap2it during interviews for "K-19: The Widowmaker."

However, the grail may finally be within grabbing distance. Steven Spielberg has confirmed to "Access Hollywood" that Harrison Ford is on board for "Indiana Jones IV" and that production is slated to begin in 2004 for a 2005 release.

During an interview for his latest film, "Catch Me If You Can," Spielberg told Pat O'Brien that the new script is written and has been approved, and that he will direct the project himself.


This is great news, but about 10 years too late. It will be interesting to see what the story is all about.

Look I'm at my job and I am supposed to appear to be working at least. Can't do that if I'm laughing on the floor, thank you very much.

I don't expect to see this in my lifetime. I'll leave the original trilogy to my 5 year old daughter in my will so she can pick up on the storyline when this one hits the big screen.

It would be interesting if they could jump to the late 50's early 60's (given Ford's age now) and do something archeological with that time period.

Oh come on, give Harrison a break. How old is he now, 60? Patrick Stewart is older than than and he's still cranking out the ST adventure stuff, so is Sean Connery for that matter. Isn't anyone on here over 30?

More of concern is the screenplay. We all know Spielberg has been erratic on that front, great handling other people's material (ie: Minority Report) but not so great when adding his own (A.I.?).

Out of all the old movies from the 80's that could have another sequel, i think Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones would work the best (over Arnold in another Conan, Stallone in another Rocky or Rambo).

Patrick Stewart plays an older character. I think the point is Ford is too old to play a 30 year old archeologist. So, assuming there's continuity as demonstrated in the first three, this must take place much in the "future". So maybe it's the next generation father/son movie with Decaprio playing the son, naturally.

Why is everyone assuming that he is going to play Indy as a 30 year old? Perhaps he will play him at the age that he is now.

Well, the movies take place in the 1940s, so the next movie doesn't have to be the future - just the future of 1940s.

Again, a movie set in the late 50's, 60s, or early 70s would work with Harrison's current age...

I mean, the Young Indy series showed an Indiana near his 90s in the 1990s. I think the premise is that Indiana was born in about 1905-1910?

Who here is a fan of the Young Indiana Jones series? When was Indiana born?

What's the big deal? So he plays an older character. Everyone here sounds like all they see is Summer Catch and She's All That. Frankly, I'd rather see Ford and Spielberg go at it again than have some young jerks like Hayden Christensen and Brett Ratner be brought in to gussy up an old franchise.

What's funny is that with your complaints you're all still going to go see it. I do wonder if Connery will be able to make it in this one.

Indy was born on July 1, 1899.

And they already stated that it will be a more modern Indy. I think it will take place in the 1950's or even 60's. THe others were in the 30's...not 40's.

I'm a HUGE Indy and Harrison fan. I say let it go. 3 was absolute perfection. I guess i'm just scared of what may come.

Seriously.... I don't have a problem with this... I'm not sure why anyone would. And statements about playing a "30-year-old" archeologist are silly... the actor isn't 30... why would the character be. The character isn't immortal...

...unless he actually DID drink from the Grail.

Is Frank Darabont still attached to write the script or to help work on the story? I thought I read that this past summer, because he did a lot of work w/ the Young Indy series/movies.

Yes, Frank is the one who has written the script. That was confirmed.

As was the passage of time. Harrison and Spielberg have confirmed this over and over again.

Harrison OWNS the charactor much like Connery owned 007. Who could fill the shoes?
