I was wondering if there was enough success of the first film to warrant another episode, or if Atkinson has made any mention of one?

It was mentioned around here how depressed Atkinson was over the scathingly bad US reviews. But overseas and around the world, it was considered a big hit.

I have it, liked it and saw it's limitations. To me, the overall premise deserves a second try / visit to the character.

Actually, I remember reading recently that he actually has been suffering a major bout of depression lately. The bad reviews probably made it worse.

The movie was pretty good, and with its huge international success, i would expect a sequel....though perhaps it wouldnt be picked up here due to the numbers of the first one.
I had read a couple weeks ago that his depression was due to the failure of the movie here.....the Bean shows/movies are hilarious, and i hope Atkinson is getting better now.

It made like $140 million total around the world. not bad for a $35 million movie. I dont know if I would want a sequel. This one was okay. I wish he would go back and do another Black Adder series or movie. That is when he was at his best!

I agree that Atkinson would make a perfect Closeau, but since they've signed Steve Martin for the part that's probably never going to happen. There's a void left now that Mike Myers has presumably closed the door to the Austin Powers movies and Atkinson's Johnny English character would fill it in my opinion, though in a more slaptick, Closeau like manner. I know the opinions here in the forum are mixed and the critics panned it, but a movie that made something like $128 million should be screaming for a sequel. I hate the idea of Atkinson being depressed over the critic's opinions as well.... when a movie makes that kind of money in the theatres alone it means there were lots of people who DID like the movie, critics be damned. I have it and like it as well, well enough to hope for more than just the one installment.

yeah, bean is a thing of taste. and that goes for atkinson in general. like it or not, as much as universal appeal as it has, it's not american humor. it never will be. it's very light hearted innocent humor, with a bit of innuendo and dark humor for variety..and lots of classic slapstick...not like today's humor in america..either so cynical and ironic..or all sexed up and raunchy..

Rowan Atkinson used to be hilarious. "Black Adder", "Mr. Bean" (tv series), and stage shows were all great. But I haven't seen anything new and funny from him in quite time.

I'll take Atkinson over Rogen, Carell, Hill, Ferrell, or any of the other "comedic" actors churning out a lot of crap that passes as "funny" movies nowadays.

Mr. Bean was never really my cup. I never bothered with seeing this but I seem to remember it didn't look too awful. Might have to give it a rental sometime.

Yeah most of those guys are really stale now days. Although Carell and Ferrell both surprisingly were in comedy's this year that I actually enjoyed a lot (Carell in Dinner For Schmucks and Ferrell in The Other Guys). Never really liked Jonah Hill and to be honest I've always felt that Seth Rogen was way overrated (only thing I liked him in was Pineapple Express). I still would have to say that Paul Rudd is consistently my favorite comedic actor of late. Role Models, I Love You, Man, and Dinner For Schmucks are all great.

+1 Plus it's the type of comedy. I prefer deadpan over slapstick any day of the week. Telegraphing me what I'm "supposed" to be laughing at isn't something I enjoy.
