Johnny Depp is slowly becoming one of my favorite actors ever...

This guy is on a roll. I've come to REALLY enjoy his roles in the following movies:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - my favorite work of his so far.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - obviously....made the movie worth watching IMO
Blow - great great movie with a great Depp performance that's overlooked.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico - watching this now and lovin' it. He's amazing...heard he only was there for like 2 weeks on set, too.

Can't wait to see him in Charlie and Choc. Factory....honestly one of my most anticipated movies. Any other Depp roles I need to watch?

You mean you didn't like Edward Scissorhands or Ed Wood?

Frankly, everything depp touches is gold for me. Been that way for a while. Ed Wood was just great. Hell Sleepy hallow was enjoyable because of him.

He's dreamy...

Donnie Brasco
Dead Man
Cry Baby
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Blow

He was also in Platoon, but not so you'd notice so much... He was also in some really bad movies, but again, not so you'd notice. Nick of Time sounds good on paper, but was a big miss... probably worth a rental, but not great. I liked Don Juan DeMarco, but I'm sure I'm alone on that one. Ninth Gate and Astronauts Wife were both somewhat disappointing for fans I think.

You know, even though Ninth Gate blew goats in terms of ending, depp again made the film interesting.

I enjoyed both Sleepy Hollow and From Hell, although the roles are very similar.

Immediately watch all of the Burton Depp teamings. Ed Wood is the best, but Scissorhands is good and Sleepy Hollow sports an excellent Depp performance.

Agree with Jaeufraser, the Depp/Burton movies are my faves, but Gilbert Grape, Fear and Loathing, and Blow were all great performances. Ninth Gate was ok (god awful ending), and the Astronauts Wife was simply painful to watch. I did like Nick of Time though too. I've always enjoyed watching his films, glad that hes starting to get some well deserved praise.

A lot of good ones mentioned above. "Chocolat" was also a really good film, with a juicy role for Depp.

He deserves an Oscar, it should be a very interesting race this year between Depp, Murray and Penn.

...not only you are not alone on this one...this is indeed one of my favorite movies. Now, IF New Line could only put up a Special Edition...I would be in heaven.

I dont understand the logic...with all the great actors in it.....

i'll second that. i loved Don Juan DeMarco also. i think the only bad movie that Depp has made was The Astronaut's Wife, at least imho. horribly disappointing movie. i would recommend every movie listed here with the exception of that one.

i've been a big Depp fan for years, and funnily enough, i remember getting teased about that a couple years ago... someone told me that by liking him, i was "showing my age", lol.

I like Depp as well. I can't say I'd watch a movie because he was in it though. I hated Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Edward Scissorhands. The voice put me off the first and the story bored me for the latter. He was brilliant in POTC which would have been a very average movie if it wasn't for him.

Been a Depp fan since 'Nightmare on Elm Street', infact the only Depp film I can say avoid is 'From Hell' and it's not Depp's fault, it was just a really boring film.

His best performance though? It's a tie... Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Ed Wood. I can't pick bewteen those two!

I remember him on 21 Jump Street.

How many of us remember him in "Private Resort"?

Now THAT is a bad movie.

Johnny Depp even made Once Upon A Time In Mexico enjoyable.

Oh, I remember Jump Street all right.

Depp is one of the very few Hollywood mainstream actors that I really have respect for. He has made consistently interesting choices. Even when it's dreck ("Ninth Gate" "Nick of Time") it's INTERESTING dreck, largely because of his performance.

But yeah, "Ed Wood" is far and away my favorite performance of his.
