Was Freddy vs. Jason good enough for a "Blind Buy"?

I like all the old Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but after seeing New Nightmare and Jason X, I'm a bit skeptical.

Or should I just rent it first?

If you're a gore-hound, you won't be disappointed (okay, you still might be) but that's pretty much all it had going for it, IMO. Not many scares.

I'd rent it.

If you care more about extras than the film itself, I would buy it.
Otherwise I found this film to be largely dissapointing.
It had a couple of good moments, though.

You know I have never seen it but would take a chance on it. I would say I know blind buy 50% of my dvd's now. With the rise in ticket prices I can purchase a DVD and own it for less the the price of a movie. That is for my wife and I and you could even trade it in at BB if you dont like it toward a new release for $12.99.

I thought it was filled with a lot of good scenes, and no bad ones. There was one that was on the virge of being bad (when Jason gets 'bounced around'). I thoroughly enjoyed it.

For reference, I loved Nightmare on Elm Street 1, 2, 3 (to some extent), New Nightmare, and dislike ALL of the Friday the 13th movies.

Wasn't very scary, but I found it enjoyable enough. If you're a relatively large Jason or Freddy fan, I could see it being a worthy addition.

Let me put it this way. I hate horror movies with a passion. They're too predictable, repetative, and pointless most of the time for my taste (although 28 Days Later opened my mind a bit more to them, but then again, that movie is good because it's more of a social commentary with horror elements than a horror movie). But my friends dragged me to see Freddy vs. Jason anyway. When I walked into the theater, I was so pissed that I was actually sitting there wasting my time with that movie. But to my surprise, I actually enjoyed the movie quite a bit and I'm planning on picking up the dvd. It's not much of a horror movie because there's nothing scary about it. It works best if you think of it as an action movie, and as an action movie, it's quite enjoyable.

Like others have said, its a great action movie, not much horror. But it was very entertaining. I'd definitely get it if you like the previous movies.

Freddy Vs. Jason is a very exciting, gory movie. It's not a bit scary, but not that many movies are scary nowadays. With the great extras, I would recommend picking up the DVD if you enjoy any Freddy or Jason movie.

I'm planning to get it. I'm not a huge fan of Freddy or Jason, but a lot of my friends liked it at 9 times outta 10 if they do I do, but if I don't I can always resell it and get most if not all that I spent back anyway

I've talked to a few people who absolutely hated this film, and I couldn't really understand why. If your a fan of either franchise, you will most likely find something decent in this movie. You may not think it's the greatest movie ever, but what entry in either series was? Your trademark Freddy One-liners are there (and a couple of pretty good ones at that) and your trademark Jason mindless killing (the rave scene was a great delight) is there. The actual Freddy vs Jason fight is quite enjoyable (even if flawed). Yes the movie does get bogged down here and there, but the good parts ought to be enough to make the overall viewing pleasurable. I say buy it.

Well, I wouldnt call it a horror movie. I'd say it's more of a dark comedy.

And lets get one thing clear - it's not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination. However it's a GREATFriday the 13th or Nightmare movie. It's got all the classic bits - "Have sex, get killed", "Freddy gets all the good lines" and so on. Me and my two friends - die hard Old School slasher flick fans to the end - loved it.

For 15 bucks, I'd say hell yeah.

It was very entertaining... definitely pick it up, especially if you're at all a fan of the others.

What's your beef with New Nightmare though? That and the first one are my favorites!

Just the whole premise of Freddy being this whole entity outside of the actual movies and everybody playing themselves as if they're in real life. I just thought it was too much of a stretch.

I thought this one sucked. I love horrors though, but this one was really disappointing to me.

Ronny Yu is the guy responsible for one of my favourite films (Bride with White Hair) so I still always want to check out his latest movies (but his US output has been kind of disappointing to me thus far).

i hate freddy kruger (always thought it was creepy) but i was thoroughly entertained by this film

it is extremely entertaining; it's not really a horror movie, more like a hard action with a few cheap scares, gore, and lots of sick humor

definitely worth a buy, especially since bb will have it on sale for 15.99 next tuesday

Cool

After reading the replies I'm going to pick this up as a blind buy =)

I'm not much of a horror watcher but I like action movies.
