I go into each movie blind and then read the book before the second viewing.

I love being surprised (well, somewhat anyway) by what's unfolding, and then love catching up on all the backstory and details that were left out.

Blind. I think it negatively affected my enjoyment.

My approach is similar to this. I went into the last two movies blind (I had read "Fellowship" a LOOONG time ago).

I enjoy the ability to see it in a new way after reading the books.

I saw the first 2 before I read the books but I knew the basics of the story already, but I read the whole book after I saw 2 towers

Blind.
Read The Hobbit way back when, knew the general storyline. Did buy the books [also got a deal on them] to read after seeing the movies. But generally I think book-after-movie works better than movie-after-book, unless the book was read a long time ago and is not very fresh in the memory.

I actually watched Ralph Bakshi's animated version of LOTR numerous times when I was much younger, then read FOTR and TT (our library didn't have ROTK) while I was in High School. I get bored very easily when reading, so I wasn't into the books all that much. I loved watching the animated version (despite it's many faults) though. Even though it's been around 10 years since I read them, I still remember all the characters and plots when watching the new films.

I had read them, but not for a while. Since FOTR has premiered I've read through the books twice.

I read the Hobbit and LotR for the first time before FotR was released. Re-read them this fall before RotK - so I remembered everything vividly before I went to Trilogy Tuesday.

Went in blind on the FotR, seeing fully before, at least the trilogy, TT. I actually started reading the trilogy the day after I saw FotR.

I'm pretty sure I read the books many, many years ago. I had forgotten anything I had read by the time the movies came.

..or maybe I never read them.. I can't even remember at this point.

I first read the books in the summer of 1966.

Definitely blind. Those books were way too long to read.

Blind, as well. In fact, I didn't even see the first movie until it came out on DVD ($24.99 with 10 week Blockbuster rental card). After seeing FOTR, I definitely had to see the next two in the theaters.

I have to agree here as well, If a book is fresh in my mind, movies
just seem to pale in comparison. I went in Blind, and have just
started LOTR novels.

Books too long to read? No Time? Sheesh. You just spent nearly 4-hours in a movie theatre. Time enough to actually read ROTK.

I have never heard of LOTR until they start marketing the movie. I bought the books after watching Fellowship of the Ring. I haven't read the books yet though.

I went in kinda blind. I saw the Bakshi toons form way back but that was way back. Seeing Jackson's FOTR made me go read The Hobbit and The FOTR Trilogy.
