The Weekly Alibi's Ten Best Horror Films You've (Probably) Never Seen
The Weekly Alibi is the alternative paper in Albuquerque. I picked it up yesterday, and the halloween issue was still on the stands.
The Brood (1979)
Brain Dead (1990)
Cronos (1993)
Curse of the Demon aka Night of the Demon) (1957)
Dark Water (2002)
Dellamorte, Dellamore (aka Cemetary Man) (1994)
May (2002)
Paperhouse (1988)
The Sender (1982)
Dia de la Bestia (aka Day of the Beast) (1995)
I've seen one of these, and part of Dellamorte, Dellamore on the Spanish station. Even my wife, who's an expert on horror movies, hasn't seen them all (but owns most of the ones she has seen).

I've only seen Brain Dead,Cronos and May. All these are available on dvd. Cronos was a must-buy for me. Of the others, only The Brood(a Cronenberg) and Night of the Demon(a Tourneur) are on a US region dvd release. Day of the Beast is available in Germany.

Paperhouse is excellent, but I never would have categorized it as a horror film.

Curse/Night of the Demon is absolutley fantastic! If you like English horror/sci fi from the 50's and 60's, it is a must!
It's even better than the similar Quatermass films of that era.
How is Cronus? Heard mixed things about it. I like my horror without blood and violence, more atmostphere and mood.

Not sure if I should be pleased or disappointed that I've seen seven of them.
Might as well rank them as long as I'm answering.
1 Curse of the Demon (aka Night of the Demon) (1957) must-have
2 Paperhouse (1988) excellent! Australian disc is cheap and worth it
3 Brain Dead (1990) current disc is fair, but it's a great movie
4 May (2002) lovely
5 Dellamorte, Dellamore (aka Cemetery Man) (1994) we need a good DVD
6 Cronos (1993) quite good
7 The Brood (1979) don't like it

However, how the hell is Curse of the Demon a "never-seen" movie, it's regarded as one of the best classic horror films of the 1950s, featured in dozens of books on the subject. I think it's overrated, and I am looking to get rid of the disc, but i'm sure there is another film they could have put on instead of this.

The Brain Dead mentioned is the Bill Pullman/Bill Paxton flick, not the Peter Jackson movie aka Dead Alive. This has been one of my "hidden treasures" for a long time. A low-budget, but excellent movie...one of those cool "is this really happening, or is it a dream" kind of stories.

Good list and for Cronenberg fans The Brood is a must see.
Night of the Demon, Dark Water and Cronos are also fantastic.
Haven't seen The Sender yet.

May is fantastic. Very different for a horror flick, about an extremely introverted girl who'se desperate for a boyfriend. It's kind of difficult to describe without spoiling, but it goes into her extreme social discomfort.
Cronos - Guillermo Del Toro's first movie. It took me a little bit to get into, but became another oddball where you can see Del Toro's talents beginning. Strangely the movie is actually bilingual. It's officially a Spanish-language movie, but Ron Perlman & Co's American characters have an equal amount of screentime.

Have not seen these but now I must since the ones I have seen from that list are all good.

May is surprisingly good... but i couldn't shake away the "tormented high school goth kid" feeling i was getting from the overall story. ultimately, it was deeper and more sincere than that... but things got ridiculous at times.

I love Dellamorte, Dellamore. Whatever happened to the sequel Soavi said he was finally gonna make? Did the US made Dylan Dog kill its chances?

Seen all but Day of the Beast. I didn't think much of Cronos or May, but am a fan of the others, Dellamorte Dellamore being my personal favorite.

Brain Dead is an unqualified masterpiece and The Brood is great, but I don't agree with the rest of the list (I haven't seen May though).

The only ones I haven't seen are the last three, although The Sender's been on my list of things to watch for the longest time.

I'm old - I saw The Brood in a theater during its original run
May, Cronos and Night of the Demon are the only others on the list I've seen....
