What a joke.

Anyone who votes for anything other than Do the Right Thing deserves to have their DvdTalk privileges revoked.

It's a boring, forgettable, inconsequential biopic with a great performance, good cinematography, and little else.

God forbid people have their own opinions. How offended you must be that they didn't check in with you first before casting their votes.

From IMDB:
The 25th Hour depicts the last day of freedom for a young man before he begins serving a seven-year jail term for drug dealing. Prowling through the city until dawn with his two close male friends and his girlfriend, he is forced to re-examine his life and how he got himself into his predicament, which leads to a shocking, disturbing finale.
The last 10-15 minutes with him and his father is just heartbreaking. This is one of those movies that I'll always sit down and watch if I find it on cable.

Re: Best and worst Spike Lee "Joints"

Just watched Do The Right Thing and Jungle Fever again this weekend. Going to revisit 25th Hour soon.

DTRT is obviously a classic, but Jungle Fever is still a favorite of mine. JF is a bit corny at times, but very good for what it was. I still can't get over seeing that crackhouse late in the movie where Wesley Snipes finds Sam Jackson and Halle Berry.

It seems like Spike's career has taken a major downturn, but that could change in December when his new film Chiraq is released. It stars Sam Jackson, John Cusack, Wesley Snipes and Angela Bassett.

15 years ago this would have been an amazing cast. Now, not so much.

Prior to that movie being released, the interracial topic of that movie was a BIG deal at that time. But the only thing people mostly remembered about that movie nowdays is Sam and Halle as crackheads.

Time to revise my list from page 1 (Can't believe how high I had Bamboozled & Clockers. Summer/Sam shouldn't have been that low too)

1-Do the right thing
2-Malcolm X
3-25th Hour
4-Crooklyn
5-Get on the bus
6-Sucker Free City
7-He got game
8-Inside Man
9-Jungle Fever
10-Summer of Sam
11-Mo Better Blues
12-She's gotta have it
13-A Huey P. Newton story
14-School Daze
15-She Hate Me (Here mostly for the eye-candy)
16-Clockers
17-Bamboozled
18-Girl 6
19-Miracle at St. Anna

Need to see:
Red Hook Summer
Da Sweet Blood of Jesus (On the DVR, saving it for October)
Oldboy (Just to say that I've seen it)

BTW, here's his Essential-Films list:
https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/s...ial+film+list/

A good list. It introduced me to Seven Beauties which I ended up being quite blown away by.

Man... What I saw of Miracle at St. Anna was truly awful. I turned it off maybe halfway through.

I haven't seen all of his was work, but I generally very much enjoy what I've seen and his style.

Damn, brought back a 12 year old thread. I was in my 20's when I posted originally and I'm still posting here. So sad...

Spike Lee is a big fan of Roberto Rossellini and that is what he was going for in this film. Too bad he was let down by James McBride's awful heavy handed script.

Sounds like a straight-to-DVD cast to me.

Spike Lee hasn't been relevant since the start of the 21st century. His last meaningful film was BAMBOOZLED and his last actual good movie was GET ON THE BUS.

I'd rather see that cast than a film with the latest flavor of the month actors, you hear me Jai Courtney!

I disagree, 25th Hour was 2002.

25th Hour was amazing. And although not "meaningful", Inside Man was very enjoyable.

25th Hour is one of Lee's best.

Re: Best and worst Spike Lee "Joints"

I guess I haven't seen many of his movies. The few I have weren't anything great, and everything I've seen of Lee outside of movies has irritated me, so I typically don't seek them out. That leaves Oldboy as my favorite, despite feeling the same way as most other people about it.

Re: Best and worst Spike Lee "Joints"

I have only seen his 1995-2000 non-documentary output (except for Girl 6) and wasn't particularly impressed or unimpressed. Most of the endings pissed me off in one way or another, particularly the basketball in He Got Game. If I had to pick one, Summer of Sam is the most interesting of the bunch. This is one of the only things I remember about Bamboozled, and it still cracks me up:
