Do the Right Thing was brilliant

Clockers was excellent but only because of the great Richard Price book and script which was botched at the end with a hurried conclusion and lame final 10 minutes.

The half dozen other films of his I've seen (X, He Got Game, Girl 6, Get on the Bus, Summer of Sam, 25th Hour) are unequivical crap...

...leaving me to believe that Do the Right Thing was a fluke and the guy's got no tallent.

But I like his cable channel

25th Hour is by far his best and might be in my top 20 of this decade so far.

He Got Game and Inside Man are a step above Do The Right Thing, IMO. I always thought Do The Right Thing was given too much praise. Not that I thought it was a bad movie by any means. I just thought the other two were better.

I didn't see the rest.

25th Hour. It's my 2nd favorite movie of all time, and I'm glad to see it's not a forgotten piece of work from your responses.

I'm a huge fan of Spike Lee's movies. While he sometimes can strike out, when he's on fire his movies are fantastic. Other favorites of mine include Summer of Sam, Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man.

I'm one of "those people" who thought Mookie did the wrong thing, but Do The Right Thing is still powerful stuff.

Wow, nobody for Malcolm X yet? I think it's a fantastic film, with Denzel Washington's best performance in a career filled with excellent roles. Lee really portrays the journey X took in his life well.

Summer of Sam. It's the only film of his I've seen or care to see. I don't like his films based on the bits that I've seen and I loathe him as a person.

Though the "Malcolm Little" scenes are intregal to the source material, I just don't find those scenes as interesting or as fascinating as the "Malcolm X" segments. For me, the movie really begins when Malcolm X takes the stand for his first rallies. The performances and Dickerson's cinematography gains momentum from here on out.

You should definitely check out 25th Hour. I really can't stand Spike Lee's attitude that comes out in most of his movies but 25th Hour is a much different film from the rest.

I have heard that. If I ever saw any of Lee's other films they would be 25th Hour and Inside Man. Everything else can burn in hell.

This is a hard (but great question). I went with 25th hour. The music and the emotion (especially the last sequence) really are beautiful and make me tear up every time...
DO th right thing is a freakin masterpiece as well though and i have much love for that film as well.
I've seen everything of Spikes (except for a few of his short films and commercials) and Ive never been bored and the weakest grade I'd give a work of his is a B- ehich is pretty amazing considering his extensive body of work. I am ying to see Miracle at St. Anna. That looks to be one of the best films of the year and i hope it finds an audience.

My Spike Lee films' rankings (Im not including documentary works or else When the Levee Broke would be on here for sure.)
1. 25th Hour
2. Do The Right Thing
3. Malcolm X
4. Bamboozled
5. Summer of Sam
6. He Got Game
7. Inside Man
8. Jungle Fever
9. Clockers
10. Get on The Bus

His best is Do the Right Thing, though I haven't seen 25th Hour. His worst is School Daze, though I haven't seen She Hate Me. I liked Clockers and Malcolm X as well, though in general I'm not a big fan of his films.

Do The Right Thing is easily the best and my favourite, however 25th Hour is a close second... underrated flick.

Hahaha. Such an angry fellow. I'm pretty sure most of your favorite hollywood stars would let you down in the attitude department if they were even half as outspoken as Spike lee is. Not to say Spike Lee isn't a cocky prick most of the time. It doesn't change the fact that the guy has made some amazing films though. My favorite is definitely "Do the Right Thing".

Only seen 3 or 4 of his films so far, haven't been all that impressed yet.

But I own several others and plan to get to them eventually.

Favorite so far is Inside Man or Clockers, neither of which I'd give above a C+ or so.

Do The Right Thing is amazing, followed closely by Malcom X, Get on the Bus, and Inside Man. Special mention for When the Levees Broke, since it was a made-for tv- doc.

Of the "Joints" I've seen, I believe "Inside Man" was his best so far.

1. No Spike Lee appearing in his own "joint".
2. It came across as a big film, and not some College project.
3. It didn't hit the viewer over the head too hard with Lee's often tiresome stabs at race relations.
