Maybe I'm just jaded and cynical, but I can't imagine paying (let alone spending 2 hours watching) the new Lion King DVD. Do you all have kids?

I'm 25, have no kids and love many (but cetainly not all) Disney animated films. Jaded and cynical maybe, but you're no film lover if you don't have the patience or appreciation for Pinochio, Fantasia, or Snow White. They're not just cartoons or Disney movies, they're American film masterpieces; as important as Birth of a Nation, Citizen Kane, or Singin' in the Rain.

Deisney? that like Ricky Rouse?
I'm really just one of those sick interweb freaks that loves to freeze frame shots that have "SEX" spelled out in dust, upskit shots of Redheads who like bunnies and ministers popping wood. That's why I buy "Deisney" dvd's.

There is a vast difference between classic animation like Pinocchio, Dumbo, Fantasia, Snow White and formulaic fluff like Lion King and Little Mermaid.
I love the classics...but can't sit through the fluff.

But in all honesty i don't think you really need an excuse or too feel any kind of guilt whatever your age to enjoy them as i pretty much agree with what Pants has said.

What you pay the DVD for anyway?
Besides, it's a great film. You never read Hamlet?

I love film, and a big part of film is animation. Some of that Disney stuff really is magical. "Sleeping Beauty", "Snow White", "Bambi", "Fantasia" and "Dumbo" are some of my favorite films of all time, in ANY genre.
I'm a Disney fan. The newer stuff is hit or miss with me. I thought "Beauty and the Beast" was great, and I really got a kick out of "Lilo and Stitch". But "Pocahantas" and some others leave me cold.
"Lion King" isn't my favorite by any stretch, but I think it's a good movie and it's really beautifully done. I'll definitely be picking it up, for myself, a 26 year old male with no children.

I don't think I have ever sat through and watched Lion King in its entirety, I can't stand the music numbers, that "a coon a ma ta ta" song is like fingernails on a chalk board for me, I remember liking Bambi though, I can't think of any others right now

I do have a daughter, but I enjoyed Disney (and other animated films) long before that. However, I will admit that I went through a ""I am 2 mature 4 cartoonz, d00d...they be for kidz!!!" stage when I was ages 13-16.

I'm 18, and grew up with these movies. Luckily, my girlfriend collects them, so i don't have to buy my own copies as of yet. My favs: Aladdin, Lion King, Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.

The most recent Disney movie I've seen is The Black Cauldron.
Oh, and I do have two kids.

I've never really been a big fan either, but I do consider the Lion King and both Toy Story films worthy additions to the collection.

Disney animation peaked with their early masterpieces in the 1940s and has been on an unsteady decline ever since. Actually, that goes for the animation industry as a whole. I only own Snow White and Fantasia, may purchase Pinocchio and that will be it for Disney in my collection.
I have never been able to understand the exultation of The Lion King--it is one of the most mediocre animated features the Mouse House has ever made. Even Aladdin is far superior and it came out just a few years before.

I'm 20 and I really enjoy the Lion King, as well as all the other titles that have came out/are coming on the platinum title.
Besides, if you have a date over and she's not interested in watching Scarface or Fight Club you can pop in a Disney movie and she'll be surprised how sweet you are. (Then you can get in her pants.)
