Kill Bill will mark the launch of the Fall movie season. If it weren't for the fact that the Coen Bros. new movie is probably going to pull in about 10 to 15 million this coming weekend, I'd say $38 million for sure. But given the appeal of Clooney/Zeta Jones, I'll subtract $10 million and say $28 million for the Friday-Sunday weekend.

28 million is my guess. Mystic River will do about 15, Intolerable Cruelty maybe 10-12.

I predict about $20 million. Depending on the reviews, Intolerable Cruelty might draw more of the mainstream audience with its PG-13 rating.

This will truly be a weekend aimed at film geeks if nothing else.

Mystic River will do about 15
Mystic River is in limited release this weekend, it won't do $15m.

In fact if Mystic River makes over $2m it'd be impressive.

Intolerable Cruelty looks alright, I don't think it'll be huge but I don't think I'm really the target audience for it.

I have no guess for Kill Bill, it's my most anticipated movie (of the year) but I don't know many others looking forward to it.

hmmm I kept thinking it would make 40-50, but thats totally not realistic. I guess since im a movie geek, and all the web sites/ good number of friends that I go to and hang out with discuss movie geek items, that KILL BILL is the world to us, when really its probably not as hyped outside of movie geeks. That said, Intolerable Cruetly doesn't seem like a hit.

I think it can make 35 million easily. Ah what the hell. put me in for 40 tops.

so yea, somewhere between 35-40 mill is my guess. but im stupid so what the hell do i know?

shit, I'm rambling. sorry

Since there is a commercial of the movie every ten seconds I expect it to do at least 30 million.

well, i'm going twice on friday and maybe once again on saturday or sunday...I'm thinking there will be some other tarantino freaks like myself out there doing the same. However, overall it will probably do in the 20-30 mil range. I've been pleased with its promotion and think that it has a decent amount of hype to carry it into the 20mil range.

As much as QT fans think that he is a God, and his movie will do serious business . . . I doubt it will. About 18 Million seems right to me.
QT isn't worried about the money it makes. I know you think he's lying if he says this, but QT is a film purest at heart and is just pleased to be able to make the film he has always wanted to see!

The exact number in my head. Followed by a HUGE word of mouth drop off, because I don't think the word is out that this is in 2 parts, and J6P's leaving this will be HUGELY pissed.

Sort of like the LOTR drop off

I know those J6P were mad about the ending of the first movie and they still continued to see it.

If the movie is good then the fact that it is in two parts will make no difference at all.

Or it could be as successful as "Remo Williams, The Adventure Continues...."

You're also all forgetting about the other serious contenders out this week: Good Boy and House of the Dead.

I mean, come on... House of the Dead is everything horror fans have been asking for... Island raves! DMX songs in the tv spots! Bullet time FX! These are all things that George Romero pioneered in Night of the Living Dead, and now they're back!

And Good Boy... talking animals are da bomb! Besides, weren't we all secretly thinking "Gee, I really loved that movie Cats & Dogs, except it'd be better if it was just the dogs."

Really though, there's a lot of hype going on, and it's similar to the fanboy hype that Freddy vs Jason got, so I'll say $35 mil.

I don't know, maybe 22 million?

Tarantino's movies haven't exactly been big money earners, although Pulp Fiction did pretty well

Two paws up, man. The commercials cannot tell a lie.

25-30 is my guess.

OMFG, don't tell me people still consider columbus day as an holiday. If that's the case, they might as well make a Hitler day.

Anyway, I'm guessing 40. It's gonna bring down the house y'all. You know people are gonna be drawn to Uma neutering dozens of japanese guys w/ her katana. Oh yeah.

I think part 1 will do fairly well ($20ish million) based on the hype but part 2 will tank based on the watching of part 1.

I'd say that only a vanishingly small percentage of people equat Columbus with Hitler.

I consider it a holiday, but only because I get the day off from work.

I like the part where you ignorantly imply Columbus is on the same level as Hitler. Good times, I tells ya.

Anyway, the film is absolutely incredible (easily the best half-movie I've seen all year), so no matter the opening weekend numbers, it will have legs thanks to tremendous word of mouth. I predict a $27 million opening (not counting White Devil Day... I mean, Columbus Day) and a $110 million domestic total.

Edit: It's made clear by the "Volume 1" in the opening credits that this is a two-part movie. If casual moviegoers weren't pissed off by that aspect of "The Matrix Reloaded," then I think the same will hold true for "Kill Bill." Those who followed the film's production have every right to be angry over what happened to the completed three hour-plus film, but most audiences will not be aware of Miramax's butchery and will look forward to the second "installment" (read: second half). The material presented in "Volume 1" really is that good.

Looks like it will be in the mid to low twenties, for those keeping track
