I thought WATERWORLD was a great idea.
It wasn't a great film but it was definitely an
entertaining one.
I'd like to see Costner try and do a smaller scale film
just to see how he is with actors and intimacy.

I think it was one of those cases where the movie was so hyped up, people's expectations were too high. This happened to me for SW1 - and man was I disappointed.
Now, I always go into a movie expecting it to suck, then sometimes am pleasantly surprised when it doesn't.
BTW - I too liked waterworld. Good action, and great bad guy by Dennis Hopper. In fact, his character was probably the descendant of the bad guy in Speed.

I love Waterworld. It isn't one of the best movies ever, but I totally understand Costner's pride in it. Whenever it's on television I always watch it.
