I don't know if this is what you're talking about, but I have the DVD and there's an alternate ending... the release version - the dude survives and they end up making a big HELP sign that is seen by a plane... in the other ending, he dies from the gunshot wound and they still make the HELP sign and it is seen by a plane... however, the main dude's part is replaced by a chicken.
