Deep Rising: One of the worst movies ever made?

I work at an ABC affiliate otherwise I would not have watched this, but we aired Deep Rising last night. That has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It had the potential to be a below-average popcorn action/horror flick but it was just terrible. And I don't think it was because of all the changes we likely had to do.

When people always complain that such-and-such is the "worst movie ever," I ask them to take a look at Teen Wolf Too, the Friday the 13th movies, or any one of those straight-to-video generic action flicks that rely on stock footage from other movies.

Nothing wrong with Deep Rising.

It's stupid of you to call the worst ever, since it obviously isn't! Even if the script wasn't amusing/fun/good which I found it to be, it still had a fine cinematography, good sound editing, special effects, music.

OBVIOUSLY not the worst movie ever.

I hate Reloaded, found it to be just terrible, but it was great technically and therefore CAN'T be the worst ever.

Or maybe you can tell us WHY it was so bad?

Crazy, I wouldn't trust the TV cut of anything.

Well, maybe Halloween.

That came out around the same time as Virus and a couple other big name sci-fi films. And that was the only one i really cared for. Don't get me wrong i'm not saying you are wrong since that is your opinion. But i just thought that is very entertaining, funny yet it had its share of scares. The guy that played benny in the Mummy was also great in this(one of my favorite actors and i can't even think of his name.)
Typical hollywood ending was the only thing i didn't like but you can't win them all.

kevin j. o'connor is his name.

this film was meant to be a throwback to the B creature movies of the past. I think it succeeds fairly well.
It's pretty funny too.

No, it is fairly entertaining as I recall(been awhile since I've seen it). My personal worst movie ever is Vulgar - it is the only movie I've watched and actually felt I've wasted 90 minutes of life.

I liked it, at least when I saw it like 5 years ago. I really liked the ending when they are on that island with abunch of the worms and dude says "Now What?". Leaving it wide open for a sequel down the road. Plus it was funny when he said "Now What?".

Go rent a movie called 'Feeders', then come back and tell us how great 'Deep Rising' is in comparison.

There are a hell of a lot of horror movies that are much worse then Deep Rising, without even going into the worst movie of all-time realm.

I like Deep Rising a lot. One of my favorite creature-run-a-muck movies. And have you seen a lot of movies? There are countless movies WAYYYYYY worse than Deep Rising. Plus, just b/c you don't like something, doesn't mean you are the judge of what is bad. Deep Rising is what it is, & it's very good at that, it's not suppose to be high art.

Personally, "Deep Rising" is one of my favorite guilty pleasure, sheer fun movies. The script had moments of humor. The ending is a great punchline payoff to "Now what?"
For "Girl from Ipanema"
For sight gags. For Treat williams? A magnum opus, a piece of poetry and art, no? In the same vein as Tremors, yes. Decent production values. Decent casting. A nice monster concept. I agree with some of the others, if you think this is one of the worst movies ever made, you either have incredibly high standards compared with a lack of exposure to really poorly made movies or you have some very unique standards.
For one, when you call this one of the worst ever made, I'd like to know what you're comparing it against.

It's funny cause I was watching this last night and I remember I watched this long time ago and I still think it's pretty good for a boat movie. I mean, it's very limited if the story takes place on a boat. Another good boat movie is also Ghost Ship. There was another good boat boat movie that was on TBS last year but I just forgot the name.

Yeah I quite enjoy Deep Rising. Saw it in the theater, picked up the DVD cheap. Is it a stupid B movie send up? Yup. Is that what it wants to be? Yup. Is it fun? If you like silly monster gore movies that really aren't scary but more silly, sure it is. It's good mindless entertainment IMO.

I love Deep Rising, one of my great guilty pleasure.

It seems if you like monster movies you have two choices, huge budget summer spectaculars too full of their own importance to actually be fun and cheap low budget DTV stuff that is made without a thought to quality.

Deep Rising falls right in the squishy fun filled center.

I bought Deep Rising sight unseen and loved it.

The actors are fun to watch and what little you see of the creature is pretty cool.

The end was kinda lame but I enjoyed the rest of it.

Watch the movie on dvd and then judge. The tv movie is in pan and scan not to mention edited for content and time, etc.

I thought the end was a great punch line to a shaggy monster story.
