I'm almost suprised that LXG beat out T3 for 2nd place, what with the pretty good reviews and existing fan base of T3, and pretty bad reviews of LXG.

I guess there are more comic book nerds than I thought!

Impressive five day tally for POTC. I think that word of mouth will give it some staying power and that next weekend will find two Jerry Bruckheimer productions atop the list.

Where are all the naysayers who were predicting Pirates would bomb?

what is there to doubt, anything with Disney's name on it will sell, its basically a given. any association with disney will boost a movies revenue like 25%. they have pretty much come out on pretty much all there movies. I didn't expect to bomb, but i was going in to the movie will low expectations and assumed it was going to suck, but to my surprise the movie was so far one of the most entertaining movies ive seen and really enjoyed this summer.

Good to see T3 surpassing the 100M mark by 10M. Looks like they may make their budget back after all.

it costed 170 to make and 30 to market, but with the international market, this one will probably break even.

Really? How about this litle fiasco: production cost of $140 million, marketing cost of $40 million, box office take approximately $40 million. Disney's name did little to help TREASURE PLANET.

It will do much more than break even. T3 will do much better internationally than it did here. Arnold is HUGE overseas (no pun intended ).

Excelsior, I think the name Bruckenheimer right now has more cache than Disney.

Still Eisner must be happy with his takings this summer, especially since he got to whip Katzenberg's ass.

Pirates did better than I expected. Nemo is just chugging along. I really hope that translates into Pixar getting a great deal with whomever they end up signing.

So, those of you that consider The Hulk a bomb, with $125 million after 4 weeks, would you consider T3 a bomb, with $110 million after 2 weeks?

It dropped 55.5% this week. Assuming it sustains that rate (the movie has more appeal than Hulk, but to counter that, it's rated R, limiting the repeat viewing by teenagers), in the 4th week it would make around the same amount The Hulk has in it's 4th week.

Box Office Mojo lists the budget at $200 million and marketing at $40 million while The Hulk is listed at $137 million & $35 million, respectively. In the same vein, Pearl Harbor cost $140 million & $70 million while making $198 million.

Thoughts?

Nevermind already. POOR!?? At nearly $275 million at the box-office ($682 million worldwide, and counting), I wish I were that poor.

You're forgetting weekday grosses. T3 should reach $125 million by the end of next weekend, never mind the 4th weekend. It's doing better than the Hulk and with a R-rating to boot. In the long run, it should do at the very least 20 million more. On the other hand, that's still a disappointment for such an expensive film.

Well, I don't think Disney's own animated movies have done well in the recent past (excluding Lilo and Stich).
Treasure Planet
Jungle Book 2
Tigger Movie
Atlantis
Emperor's New Groove

People want to see the computer animated stuff like Dinosuar or Toy Story, Finding Nemo, etc.
