Any sequel better than the original?

Do you know of any sequel that is a better movie than the original? Someone I know made a statement that no sequel has ever lived up to the original and though I could not counter that with a specific example, I find it hard to believe that there is no sequel out there that is actually better than the original movie. Any examples you would like to share? Thanks.

X-men 2-while nothing wrong with the original, this one expanded the characters and story ten-fold from the original.

Bride of Frankenstein-again like X2, took everything that worked in the first and fully explored the possiblities.

Batman Returns

I won't say Aliens is better than Alien, because one is action and the first is horror. But Aliens is certainly kick ass.

Same with Empire Strikes Back.

Eddie and the Cruisers 2: Eddie Lives, best sequel because, they had the lead singer Michael Pare in both movies. John Caffery Sandg the songs and Michael Pare lyp snynched all ten perfectly, that's part of being a good actor and having a sucessful sequel that didn't do good in the movie Theater but became a classic when it hit the pay channels. Original was in 1983 that's on Disc. One I am talking about is not on DVD.

I had a thread on this title and there a lot of members who share my opinion of that this should be on DVD this IMO is better by far than the original. Come on Scotti Bros and put this better selling movie on DVD.

As with most others, I'd say Godfather II and Termniator 2. I'd also add Speed 2 to my list. And Phantasm II, I think - but it's been so long since I've seen it. Needs an R1 relase!

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn
Phantasm II
Exorcist III

X2
Empire Strikes Back
Bride Of Frankenstein
Dawn Of The Dead
Trek II

That's about it... All of you folks who say that Aliens is better than Alien and that GFII is better than GF are wrong...

Edit - And no way in hell, on a good day, is Psycho II better than the original.

I'd say of the three Jack Ryan movies (haven't seen Affleck), each one got progressively better (and less boring) than the previous.

Batman Forever is a lot of fun, and in my opinion, better than the first two Batman movies.

Look Who's Talking Now is more enjoyable than the first two.

I know it's blasphemy to say such, but Fantasia 2000 packs more of a punch than the original (i.e. no doze-inducing Pastoral Symphony sequence).

And of course, Mannequin 2: On the Move is just a huge improvement on the original Mannequin.

The Evil Dead 2 (I think is more entertaining, not better)
Goldfinger
For a Few Dollars More
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Thing (a remake, not a sequel)
Star Trek 6 (most hate it, I like it)
Aliens

P.S.: T2 is not as good as the original Terminator. One simply rehashes the latter. Although T2 has superior graphics, etc., it is the inferior film.

Empire Strikes Back
Aliens
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
The Mummy Returns
Friday the 13th Part 2 (not better, but just as good as the 1st)
Halloween II (once again, not better, but just as good as the 1st)
Rocky II
Rocky III
Rescuers Down Under
Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies
Child's Play 2
The Dentist 2
Final Destination 2
Ghostbusters 2
Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade
Back to the Future Part II
Batman Returns
Batman Forever
The Matrix Reloaded

P.S. Exorcist III better than the original? No way!

I'll stay away from the trilogies and remakes, and go strictly with actual sequels for my picks:

X2
The Pink Panther Strikes Again - fifth in series
Mission Impossible 2
Wrath of Kahn
