Yeah, I had Veruca Salt mixed up with Bluberry Girl...sorry. I was half asleep when I wrote that.

Walken is the best pic so far. But I might have the best. I don't much like him, but I think he would work the same way Wilder did. Wilder was funny, but also kind of unstable and scarry.

Sandler as Wonka:
Willy Wonka (in lispy baby voice): And Charlie, don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he'd ever wished for.
Charlie Bucket: What happened?
Willy Wonka: SHABBA-DEE-DOO! (crosses eyes, farts).

But I honestly think it could work very well.

Damn, every time I think someone has nailed the perfect choice, somebody beats that previous choice. I loved the ideas of Depp, Cummings or Walken....but that Bill Murray suggestion just blew my mind. I would love to see that.
And I've seen it mentioned numerous times in this thread, but can somebody tell me why Marilyn Manson would be right for this role? Maybe I'm not as open minded (and I do like his music) but that just gets me going like this

Just read this on IMDB, in regards to casting:
Looks like Christopher Walken has been considered, although, personally, eventho I like him, I think he's too old. I don't know about Michael Keaton though (although he could use a "comeback" - you can only make Jack Frost work once). Then again, nobody thought he could be Batman.
I like a lot of the suggestions, especially Crispin Glover, Robin Williams, Alan Cummings and Bill Murray. John C. Reilly is a good actor, but I'm not so sure if I could see him in the part. I like Jason Lee also, though I can't really picture that at all.
I, of course, think the best choice is Mr. Depp, cuz along with Tim Burton, magic is made. Hard to envision as it is, I'd check it out, for sure.
I actually like the original a lot, but I don't really care that they're making another one. No skin off my teeth. It actually sounds interesting to me. So, when it comes out, I'm there.

Cult movie maker Tim Burton is struggling to cast a Willy Wonka for his upcoming adaptation of Roald Dahl novel Charlie And The Chocolate Factory - he can't decided between two of his favorite leading men. Both Christopher Walken - who worked with Burton in Sleepy Hollow and Batman Returns - and Michael Keaton - his star in two Batman films and Beetlejuice - are reportedly in the running. So far no names are attached to the picture, which is due to begin filming next year for a 2005 release.

Paul Bettany for Wonka
Paul Bettany would be awesome in the role of Willy Wonka. He is tall and lanky, he also just has that dark charm that you don't know either to laugh or be scared. It is my choice and I wish they would give it to him. He is a great actor and deserves this, this may even be the role that puts him in more lead roles instead of the sideline characters.

While I don't really think they should remake this film, and I think Gene Wilder was fantastic in the role, I am also excited about Christopher Walken being considered at the same time.
He would be great in the role.
Just think, it wasnt too long ago that Nic Cage was being considered for the role. ::shudder::
