Hmmm..Drama? For some reason, I went straight to the Drama section yesterday looking for it and it was there. I don't think there's a Western section at Circuit City.
So I vote Drama

It's listed as a Western in every online store I checked (and I checked about five). Muze, the company that provides the data used by many stores, lists it as Western with sub-genres in Adventure, Drama, Indians, Western, & Wilderness.
I say it is a Western first.

I know this is kinda off topic, but I've never seen this movie in my life(yes, I am over 16 years old),and I was wondering if this movie is at least worth a rental.
Why have I never seen such a well known, Oscar winning film? I dunno, Kevin Costner just annoys me. Plus, it still irks me that Goodfellas lost Best Picture and Best Director(!) to this movie and that annoying Costner. Did I mention Costner annoys me?
So, can someone recommend this flick?

Sorry, I've been super busy at work this week and need to catch up on my sarcasm quota.
And no, I can't recommend it without knowing anything else about your tastes in movies. But I loved it when I saw it.

Seriously, if you hate him that much, it's hard for me to imagine you liking this movie--I haven't seen it in a while, but I can't think of a scene without him in it. I didn't find him annoying when I first saw this, and liked it a lot. I'll have to see if that still holds true since now I, too, find him really annoying.

Both. Films can be more than one genre. It's not black and white. However, since that wasn't a choice I voted "Western" since it directly deals with the themes of expansion.
Speaking of black and white, that's one of my criticisms of the film: everything is black and white...
All Sioux = Good
All Pawnee = Bad
All White Men = Bad (except Costner and the chick who was raised by the Sioux)
It's pretty ridiculous.

Since it helped revive the western genre, I consider it a western.

I could probably count on my fingers the number of westerns released in the past 20 years.

At the Circuit City where I work, we filed it under Drama, and yes, we do have a western section.
However, sometimes I'm just perplexed by whoever on the corporate level decides to file these things in certain sections - here are a few examples off the top of my head:
Signs - Action
The Last Castle - Drama
Lord of the Rings: FOTR - Sci Fi
Lord of the Rings: FOTR Extended Version - Action
Notting Hill - Drama
Iris - Comedy
and after having Amelie in Drama for the first 9 months or so, someone in corporate finally switched it to Comedy. In the same manner, Final Destination was just recently finally switched from Drama to Horror.
So that said, DON'T TRUST CC's FILING SYSTEM!
