i LIKED the rave scene...

and here's why:

after a minute, i realized it was showing the 'aliveness' of humans to contrast against the machines. sex and dancing, what's more animalistic, and less machine-like? music, sweat, saliva, it's SO alive.

and the wide shots of everyone looked like one, pulsating, swaying, moving lifeform. almost like an insect nest.

perhaps it does go too long, but overall, i really enjoyed the visuals and meanings.

I didnt mind the the rave scene for the first minute, but after that I was really wishing it would stop. Which is pretty horrible to be thinking after years of anticipation and a few minutes into the movie. If the scene had been completely cut and put on the dvd as a deleted scene, then I would have thought about what a good decision it was to scrap it.

I think we needed to know a bit more about what the main characters were fighting to protect. It did go on for a bit longer than it probably needed to, but I think it was an important scene. It also parallels the club scene in the first movie and provides a way to compare and contrast the "real world" and Zion.

They could've shown a minute of it and that would've been plenty. The movie was about 10 minutes longer because of it. It was unnecessary.

The rave scene was a tad too long. After a while all I could do was want it to be over so that we could move on with the story.

The most boring and tedious scene of the movie.

That scene was the only reason the movie was rated "R". Talk about stupidity at its finest...

I agree, the rave scenes sucked.

In fact, I'd go as far to say each and every scene in Zion sucked.

Yeah, okay, the animalistic qualities of man vs. machine. Still boring and overdone, as other posters have already said.

I got the "point" of the scene after 15 seconds. And then it kept going on. And on. And on.

Did Paul Thomas Anderson edit this film?

It felt awkward the first time I saw it.
The second time I totally got into it. The music is great. That fly-in over the crowd as the music reaches full tempo was cool.

This is the heart of Zion. The remnants of humanity. When you realize what's going on after the Architect talks to Neo, it takes on even more relevance. These people are all that's left to repopulate the world. It's perfectly reasonable that they celebrate their sensuality. This is something the machines could never comprehend. They may be able to replicate it and it's reactions... but never could they comprehend it.

I didn't mind the 'rave' scene. Yes it represents humanity, but it was a bit long and tedious. So it was good for artistic merit, but cinematically boring :P

The music absolutely rocked. I love progressive house! But yeah, the scene should've been shortened. Also am I the only one that felt uncomfortable watching Carrie Ann Moss in a sex scene? I'm sorry don't get me wrong I love how she kicks ass in the film, but I don't find her to be sexy at all. I could only cringe at watching her and Neo getting it on. That should've been left out as opposed to the bumping and grinding going on on the dance floor.

I saw the movie for the 3rd time tonight.
I actually did a rough timing of this scene... I got around 2 minutes. It's not just a rave scene, it's also the love scene that truly establishes the bond between Neo and Trinity. It's important because Neo's love for her is the basis for him making the choice that he does at the end.

they crosscut between the love scene and the rave scene, so there is no reason to simply cut down the amount of material between the crosscutting so that it is less than the perceived 10 minutes. It is really inconsequential how long it is in real time, but how long it is as it is perceived by the audience. The consensus is that it is too long, so it is, regardless of how long it actually lasts...

As stated before, this is not true. For whatever stupid reason, a karate kick to the head equals an R rating. I guess they figure if they are going to get an R rating, might as well get you money's worth and show some T's.

I also was sitting in the movie thinking it was a little long but not really that big of a deal.

I've made this comment elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure I could have lived my entire life without needing to see Keanu Reeves's O-face.

The rave scene did not make that much sense to me, Morpheus pretty much says "A giant army is coming to kill all of us. Lets Party!" It was a tad long also.
