Inbreeding in Back to the Future!

Wonder if I'm missing something here, or if the McFly family is actually a bunch of inbreds!

If you notice in BTTF: Part III, Marty meets Seamus and Maggie McFly - his great great grandparents. Seamus appears to be a near genetic match to himself, and Maggie appears to be a near genetic match to his mother Lorraine.

Well that's where the problem begins. Because Lorraine was actually Lorraine Baines before she married George McFly. She was not originally a McFly, but rather married into the family. So how is it that George's great grandmother looks like Lorraine? Does George marry someone who is a relative of the McFly family???

Suddenly Marty's issues with an Oedipus complex in the first Back to the Future seem to make more sense!

Listen to the commentary. The McFly men are attracted to the same kinds of women. Not inbreeding at all.

Mostly I just have to believe it's a movie gimmick. Pretty good one too.

in the Q&A zemekis point out:

1. They just wanted to give her a part in the third one and it was the only place.

2. He rationalizes it as the McFly men are attracted to women who look a certain way (as Groucho said)

better yet, just don't sweat it...BttF is basically a 6 hour plot hole...but a fun one nonetheless.

I wanted McFly to become like fry and become his own father and thus have different brain waves.

Actaully funny enough, I wondered about this myself. Yes I do beleive that there was inbreeding with the McFly clan. Didn't people marry there family members in the old days?
